NOT only was Sydney the AFL's premier team of 2005, it was the most popular with television viewers, and by a decisive margin.

...

Yet the sad reality for Victorian clubs is that only Geelong, St Kilda and Essendon finished in the top eight on the television ladder.

The major reason for the win is playing in four finals. On home and away stats only, the Swans finished second to Essendon.

Yeah, so? That's not bad either.

And no Friday night football either. The AFL might want to reconsider that...

While Ch 9 hold the right to Fri night AFL and NRL the Swans will not play on a Friday night because of the fact they will not be seen until 11:30 in Sydney.

If the AFL see money in something they will find a way. The new deal is being negotiated now.

If the premiers from a city twice as big as the next city which has 10 teams, & 8 times bigger than the city where the runner up orignates from with 2 teams didnt have the largest viewing population this year there would be ho hope for the game in this city.

Thank God we didn't win a Premiership in 1987 then.

Also although we didnt have any Friday night games in the season proper we must have had 6-8 Sunday afternoon games which are the second best timeslot.

But SBS would not jump into bed with Nine on a deal to get the rights because they thought it was not a national game, citing Sydney and Brisbane as the two cities who are not interested in watching footy.

As a swans fan in Sydney, I really hope ch9 don't get the AFL rights, as they have their hidden agenda in SYD/BRIS as they will not show or mention anything about AFL in prime-time.

As they want to protect NRL, hence if they get the rights we in sydney will only get 1 sunday afternoon match.

Dont care who gets the rights, as long as they show live AFL whenever its on. Thank god for Fox Footy.

Ch 9 getting sole rights would be an absolute disaster for the game in Sydney. I'm sure the AFL can see that too. Consequently, I cant see Ch 9 getting it.

With all the hoo-haa about the Swans style of play, people still tune in...

And with the next lot of TV rights, I hope Ch9 don't get it because I don't like the 1:10 pm starts on Sundays. I'm glad we only have 4 at the SCG next year.

I hate the 1:10 start as well, me & my friends probably missed most of the sunday games.
