COWRA COLLAR EAGLES AS CSU CLIMB THE LADDER

The Cowra Blues Australian Football team continued their undefeated start to season 2003 with a 120 point win over the Bathurst Eagles at George Park Bathurst on Saturday.

The Blues had eight different goalkickers and are emerging as early favourites for the Central West Australian Football League flag. Mick McLeish, Francis Bright and Nathan Reed were among the blues best players while Jason Rae was a standout for the Eagles who have struggled in recent weeks.

CSU continued their climb up the ladder after a slow start to the season with an 143 point win over Mudgee who nonetheless showed definite signs of improvement. Lim Alves was best afield for the students while Brad Hickey led the way for the Black Swans at home.

The Parkes Panthers v Orange Tigers game was switched to Orange and the visitors proved too strong, cementing themselves in second place on the ladder with a 35 point win over the Tigers. Despite the loss the Tigers still remain in the top four. The game was re-scheduled for Orange so that the 9th of August clash between the two teams can be played under lights at Parkes? exciting new facility.

The Katoomba-Lithgow Mountain Lions traveled to Dubbo where the Dubbo Demons proved too strong for the visitors, running out winners by 149 points.

This Saturday the Orange Tigers will be looking to hang onto their spot in the top four when they host the CSU Bulldogs at Orange. The match of the round will be at Cowra where the competition leaders, the Cowra Blues, will be taking on the Parkes Panthers with the winner moving to top spot on the ladder. Third placed Dubbo Demons take on the Bathurst Eagles at South Dubbo Oval. On the Monday Mudgee will travel to katoomba to play the CSU Bulldogs. The game is being held at Katoomba to promote the Mountain Lions home ground. The Katoomba side will be playing Mudgee in a curtain-raiser.
