Parkes Panthers moved clear on the top of the CWAFL after a resounding away win over the previously undefeated Cowra Blues. Cowra remain a contender but the wake up call from Parkes will not have come too soon. Blustery conditions across the Central West led to some inaccuracy in front of goal but the Panthers will be glad to take the four points from the win. Shane Apsey continued his good form for the Panthers while Aaron Newton was best for the Blues.
Dubbo are looming as a contender for back to back premierships after their 217 point demolition of Bathurst at South Dubbo Oval. Greg Richter kicked 13 for the Demons while Matt Shephard contributed with nine in a best on ground performance.
CSU continued their climb up the ladder with a convincing win over Orange at Orange. Greg hair kicked four goals for the students in a strong display while Nicholas street was best afield for the home side. Orange kicked poorly with four times as many shots going wide of the big sticks as those that they managed to slot through.
The results see Parkes now out in front on the ladder closely followed by Cowra and Bathurst and the students from CSU rounding out the four. Orange Tigers have dropped to fifth while Bathurst and Mudgee fill up the remaining positions.
Next week sees the battle of the contenders when the CSU Bulldogs host the Dubbo Demons at George Park Bathurst from 1pm. Parkes will host the Bathurst eagles at Parkes and Mudgee will be the venue for the Black Swans v Cowra Blues match. First grade at these matches commences from 2.30pm.
The Central west?s newest club, the Katoomba-Lithgow Mountain Lions will be hosting the Orange Tigers at Katoomba.
