Hi and welcome to Round 7 of the 2003 SFA Premiership Season

Last week saw all games played in appalling conditions with the teams playing at Roger Sheeran Oval (Macquarie Uni and Penrith) taking an unexpected break due to a severe electrical storm which threatened during the third quarter

The three games that I will review this week will be the big win by South West Sydney over Manly and Macquarie University's comprehensive win over Penrith and the thriller in SFA 2 between Macquarie uni and Penrith/St Clair.

First off is the game at Rosedale where South West Sydney looked to win to stay in touch of the top 5 and Manly looked for some consistancy. Would this be a close game between the two improvers of 2003. Only time would tell.

In the first quarter the game started at a torrid pace with Manly kicking the first goal of the match before South West sydney hit back with the next two goals. A late goal to Manly saw them take a 1 point at Quarter time. A thriller was on the cards

1/4 Time: Manly 2.3=15 South West Sydney 2.2=14

In the second quarter, South West Sydney kicked the first 2 goals to take a 11 point lead. Manly then hit back to take the lead by 1 point. The teams then traded the next 3 goals until 1/2 time where the Magpies took a 3 point lead. The third quarter would be all important to the final result.

1/2 Time: South West Sydney 6.3=39 Manly 5.6=36

In the 3rd quarter, South West Sydney began to motor away from a now struggling Manly team, kicking 4 goals to nil to effectively end the game at 3/4 time.

3/4 Time: South West Sydney 10.4=64 Manly 5.11=41

In the final quarter, South West sydney continued their dominance of the match in the second half, kicking 6 goals to 2 to win easily by 49 points.

Final Scores: South West Sydney 16.8=104 defeated Manly 7.13.55

Best for the Magpies were: B. Freney and J. Allie whilst M. Ashton was best for the Wolves.

Now it's off to Roger Sheeran Oval for the first of two games at the venue last Saturday.
Penrith-St Clair travelled to Roger Sheeran Oval to take on Macquarie Uni knowing that a win would cement them in 4th spot for the time being. The Crows were decemated on the day of the game and only finished with one fit man on the bench. Could the Crows win away again? Time would again prove the answer.

In the first quarter, the game started at a torrid pace with the Crows kicking the first & only goal of the first quarter. Macquarie Uni should have been in front, but because of bad kicking, could only manage 5 points

1/4 Time: Penrith/St Clair 1.1=7 Macquarie Uni 0.5=5

In the second quarter, the game tightened up and both sides kicked 2 goals and Macquarie Uni won the quarter by kicking 2 goals 4 behinds to the Crows 2 goals 3 behinds, but the Crows still held a slender lead at half time.

1/2 Time: Penrith/St Clair 3.4=22 Macquarie Uni 2.9=21

Macquarie Uni came out and peppered the goals in the opening minutes of the 3rd Quarter, kicking 1 goal 4 behinds. Penrith then took control and actually outscored the Kookas kicking 1 goal 1 behind to
1 goal to go into the final change 1 point down. The stage was now set for a grandstand finish.

3/4 Time: Macquarie Uni 4.13=29 Penrith/St Clair 4.4=28

The last quarter began with Macquarie Uni kicking the first 2 goals to go 21 points up and, at that stage, ending the game for Penrith/St Clair. But someone forgot to tell the Crows players as they kicked the next 2 goals 5 behinds to trail by 4 points and had a real show of taking the 4 points but Macquarie Uni kicked a late goal to end the game 10 points in front at the final siren.

Final Scores: Macquarie Uni 7.14=56 defeated Penrith/St Clair 6.10=46

Best for the Kookas was T. Barron whilist Roy Cladingboel was best for the Crows.

Now to the final game of the review and it's Macquarie Uni v Penrith in First Grade. The Rams have had a mixed start to the year and when they travelled to Roger Sheeran Oval to face the in-form Macquarie University team, they were staring at a fourth straight loss and a continuation of a losing streak back as far as the Cronulla win at Greygums Oval last year. Would the Kookas be too strong for the pride of sydney's outer West? Only time would tell.

Macquarie University started the First Quarter full of fire, by slamming on 6 unanswered goals. Penrith added 1 before the siren but the damage was done as the Kookas led by 33 points.

1/4 Time: Macquarie Uni 6.3=39 Penrith 1.0=6

Macquarie Uni again started like a house on fire, kicking another 5 goals to 2 behinds to effectively end the game at Half time, leading by 62 points.

1/2 Time: Macquarie Uni 11.4=70 Penrith 1.2=8

The third quarter was disrupted by a electrical storm and restricted play. Penrith and the Kookas added a point to their scores once the lightning had died down and play recommenced.

3/4 Time: Macquarie Uni 11.5.71 Penrith 1.3=9

Penrith added a goal after the resumption of play but the game petered out to a resounding 57 point win to Mac Uni.

Final Scores: Macquarie Uni 11.6=72 defeated Penrith 2.3=15

Best for Mac Uni was D. Wilson whilist A. Sheppard and P. Laspatzis were best for the gallant Rams

In other Games:
Norwest Jets beat Cronulla by 16 points
UNSW/ES beat UTS by 31 points
Sydney Uni beat Parramatta by 75 points

To tomorrow's games.....
Before I preview the upcoming games, I want to express my condolances to the Mcgee Family of the tragic loss of Evan. From all at the Penrith Football Club, our hearts go out to the Mcgee family and as a mark of respect, all grades should wear black armbands.

Penrith v south west sydney

Penrith should open their account this week by winning against South West Sydney. The two sides met in a practice game at Rosedale earlier in the year with the Magpies winning. Penrith need a win here to restore some confidence back into the team.

Penrith by 2 goals

In other games:
Wollongong to beat Manly
Mac Uni to beat Parramatta
UNSW/ES to beat sydney Uni
UTS to beat Cronulla

Until next week
