Hi and welcome to a rescheduled Round 5 of the 2003 SFA Premiership Season

Last week saw all games played in perfect conditions with little or no wind around.

The two games that I will review this week will be the thriller at Goanna Park between Parramatta and Macquarie University and the comprehensive win by South West Sydney over Penrith.
First off is the game at Goanna Park where Parramatta looked to win to rebound from a disastrous 75 point drubbing from competition front runners, Sydney Uni and Macquarie University looked for back-to-back wins after beating a decimated Penrith side. Would this be a close game between the Preliminary Finalists of 2001. Let's head out to Goanna Park to find out.

In the first quarter the game started at a torrid pace with Parramatta kicking the first 3 goals. Macquarie Uni hit straight back with 2 goals to get within 5 points of Parramatta before the Goannas settled with 2 goals to lead by 19 points at the first change.

1/4 Time: Parramatta 5.3=33 Macquarie University 2.2=14

In the second quarter, Parramatta continued on their giant-killing way kicking 7 goals to 2 goals to take a seemingly unassailable lead of 51 points at the main break . The third quarter would be all important to the final result.

1/2 Time: Parramatta 12.6=78 Macquarie University 4.3=27

In the 3rd quarter, a new perspective came over the game. Macquarie University started like a house on fire and began to eat away at Parramatta's lead. A six goal to two goal quarter by Macquarie University cut the Parramatta lead from 51 points to just 25 points at the last break. A thriller was certainly on the cards.

3/4 Time: Parramatta 14.8=92 Macquarie University 10.7=67

In the final quarter, Parramatta kicked the first goal to go 31 points up and seemingly looked home but someone forgot to tell Macquarie University as they proceeded to kick the next 2 goals to get within 13 points and looked as though they would run over the now tiring Parramatta outfit. Parramatta added another goal as did Macquarie University but Parramatta won by 16 points after leading by 51 points at halftime.

Final Scores: Parramatta 16.11=107 defeated Macquarie University 14.7=91

Best for the Goannas were: S. Kassem and former St Clair player Daniel Molkentin whilst P. Cianci was best for the Kookas.

Now it's out west to Dukes Oval for Penrith v South West Sydney. Penrith were looking to end their long losing streak and South West Sydney were looking for back-to-back wins. Would the Pride of Sydney's west triumph against the team from Liverpool. Let's head out to Dukes to find out....

In the first quarter, South West Sydney started by kicking the first couple of goals before Penrith was able to answer with a goal. South West Sydney then kicked the next 3 goals to 2 goals to take a 13 point lead into 1/4 time.

1/4 Time: South West Sydney 5.2=32 Penrith 3.1=19

In the second quarter, Penrith and South West Sydney traded goals until just before the end when South West Sydney scored a goal to take a 16 point lead into halftime. The Rams were still in the hunt for their first win.
1/2 Time: South West Sydney 11.4=70 Penrith 8.6=54
In the third quarter, South West sydney began to motor away froma now struggling Penrith outfit kicking 5 goals to 1 to effectively end the match as a contest. South West Sydney took a commanding 39 point lead into the last quarter.

3/4 Time: South West Sydney 16.6=102 Penrith 9.9=63

The last quarter began with Penrith and South West Sydney going goal for goal but the leeway was too much for Penrith to make up. A five goal to four goal last quarter by South West Sydney won them the game by 43 points.

Final Scores: South West Sydney 21.7=133 defeated Penrith 13.12=90

Best for the Magpies was C. Lees whilst Paul Webster was best for the Rams.
