Hi and welcome to Round 7 of the 2003 SFA Premiership Season.

Last week saw the rescheduled games in round 5 played in perfect conditions.

The two games that I will review this week will be Cronulla's upset win over last year's premiers, UNSW/ES at Village Green and Sydney University's comprehensive win over Penrith at Dukes Oval.

Last week Cronulla were outplayed by UTS to the tune of 23 points at Trumper Park and UNSW/ES were thrashed by Sydney Uni at Village Green to the tune of 83 points. Would the big improvers be any show against last year's premiers? Let's head out to Village Green to find out....

UNSW/ES came out and kicked the first 5 goals to catch the Sharks unawares. It looked as though the Sharks were outplayed in the midfield but they rallied to kick the last 3 goals to now trail the reigning premiers at quarter time by 9 points. UNSW/ES had let slip a 30 point lead in the opening 10 minutes of play.

1/4 time UNSW/ES 5.0=30 Cronulla 3.3=21

In the second quarter, the game tightened up as both teams kicked 2 quick goals. With UNSW/ES leading by 12 points, Cronulla kicked the last goal to bring the margin back to 6 points at the main break. A thriller was on the cards at Village Green

1/2 Time: UNSW/ES 7.4=46 Cronulla 6.4=40

The 3rd quarter started with UNSW/ES kicking their only 2 goals for the quarter to establish a 19 point lead and looking home. Then a change came over the game with Cronulla kicking 3 quick goals to trail UNSW/ES by 1 point into the 20 minute mark of the third quarter. Another late goal to Cronulla, completed a fairytale comeback to lead at 3/4 time by 8 points.

3/4 Time: Cronulla 10.7=67 UNSW/ES 9.5=59

The last quarter began with UNSW/ES kicking the first 3 goals to set up a 10 point lead and looked to be getting into gear to run over Cronulla. Cronulla then proceeded to kick the next 4 goals to set up a 14 point lead. UNSW/ES could only answer with a point to reduce the margin to 13 points as Cronulla kicked 1 goal 3 behinds to close out the game by 22 points and inflicting the second consecutive defeat on the reigning premiers.

Final: Cronulla 15.10=100 defeated UNSW/ES 12.6=78

Best for the Sharks was H. Reid whilist for UNSW/ES, the best was S. Eddy

Now it's out west again to Dukes Oval (that inportantly for the Penrith Rams now has the floodlights up) for Penrith v Sydney Uni. Penrith, still looking for their first win, took on an undefeated Sydney Uni and looked to remain undefeated. Would the Rams finally break through for that elusive win? Lets head out to Dukes to find out.....

Sydney uni came out like a house on fire and stunned the Rams with a 5 goal burst before the Rams coould kick a goal. A late Sydney Uni goal saw the margin out to 34 points. Was there any way back for Penrith. The second quarter would be the telling quarter.

1/4 Time: Sydney Uni 6.5=41 Penrith 1.1=7

The second quarter started very much like the first quarter with Sydney Uni banging on another 4 goals before Penrith could score. The Rams kicked 1 goal 2 behinds in that period but the margin blew out to an unassailable 56 points.

1/2 Time : Sydney Uni 10.11=71 Penrith 2.3=15

Penrith started the third quarter by kicking 2 goals before Sydney University unleashed a spell of 7 goals 4 behinds to 4 behinds to lead by 86 points at the last change.

3/4 Time: Sydney Uni 17.15=117 Penrith 4.7.31

The last quarter was all Sydney Uni as they went on a scoring spree, kicking 6 goals 6 behinds to no score. The final margin was 128 points and the Rams are winless at the halfway mark of the 2003 SFA Premiership Season.

Final: Sydney Uni 23.21=159 defeated Penrith 4.7=31

Best for Sydney Uni was C. Mclaughlan whilst first year player Grant Webb was best for the Rams
