The close one was at Ern Holmes Oval, where Campbelltown were looking to get their season back on track and keep their spot in the top 2. And how close they came - after Pennant Hills looked to be getting on top in the 3rd term and raced away to a 22 point lead, the Kangaroos never gave up and went so close to stealing an unlikely win.
Earlier wing player Shaun Jones (with his own cheer squad on the outer side) looked in dominant form, creating numerous attacking opportunities and scoring 3 goals on the run. Although Campbelltown, especially through man mountain Moller and Fleming managed to get some goals against the run of play; the Demons for most of the game looked in control.
But in the last quarter their running midfielders notably tired, and the Kangaroos' talls started to really make their presence felt. Particularly captain Radlee Moller, whose never-say-die attitude really rubbed off on his team-mates. A goal at the 23-minute mark from Fleming reduced the margin to just a point, and the Kangaroos tried desperately to force through another score. But time and time again they were denied, and Matt Gray on the halfback line was superb in enabling the Demons to hang on for a win by the narrowest of margins.
That's the second time I've seen Pennant Hills this year, for a draw and a 1-point result. Real heart attack stuff.

(11:30pm edit) I had my digital camera at the game, the pics are now up at http://www.geocities.com/sydneyfootball2003/penhcamp.htm
