Way back in November 1999 [player manager Ricky Nixon] confronted a collection of AFL officials and club administrators with the revelation of illicit drugs in football.

...

The former Sydney Swan, Dale Lewis, joined the debate, suggesting widespread drug use among players.

...

[Michael Voss] told 3AW's Sports Today last night he feared drugs were a far bigger problem than he thought not long ago.

If you think it's an Eagles-only problem, open your eyes.

Oops, sorry: Sheahan

Now that Demsone is gone this thread has lost it's credibility. 1 star from me.

I remember how Mike Sheahan immediately stood up in support of Lewie after his comments.
Nothing like "breaking a story" 8 years later.

"You'd be naive to think that some players wouldn't be using ice," Barry told the Daily Telegraph.

Does it follow that we'd be naive to think that some Swans players wouldn't be using ice?

Wondered how long it would be before you made this logical Leo-esque leap of faith. Tad late anyway as Leo has now admitted he's got no idea what he's talking about.

Uh, no he hasn't:

When you consider there are 700 odd players in the AFL the numbers would suggest that somewhere along the line someone would have taken ?ice?.

The AFL conducts 500 tests per year, which have yielded 24 positive tests in the past 18 months, which Demetriou said was a decrease on the previous period.

Source (http://www.afl.com.au/Season2007/News/NewsArticle/tabid/208/Default.aspx?newsId=39196)

1. They don't even test every player every year
2. They found 24 positive tests in 500 - about 5%

Given that 5% of AFL drug tests return positive for drug use, you'd be naive to think that some Swans players haven't used drugs.

Hmmmm, 24 positive tests....

Does that mean there was also two Freo players who got caught?

No, it means that the entire WC team is truly flying high.I forgot the emergencies.

It's probably just Chris "Mr Sensible aka Captain No Fun" Judd that was clean.

Let us not kid ourselves, the West Coast Eagles are not an isolated club with a drug problem. The 15 who were caught last year _ whose names I might just know _ came from clubs from the eastern seaboard and an Adelaide player.
