I think Mr Magoo put that list of best players together. Davis BOG by a mile. Fossie has done his knee again. Report will follow in a couple of hours.

Any chance that he will do the same thing Eski did?

Probably not. If the surgery is still "experimental" as they keep saying it is, you wouldn't risk doing it on the chance he may make it back just in time for the finals. Eski was done because there was a chance that he'd play at least half a season.

And I'm not sure Fossie is as important to the team structure as Malceski.

Sucks about Fossie. Oh well, at least we have young guys doing well in the midfield.

I noticed Currie in the bests. Is he any chance of playing senior footy this year? Because as much as I like Spida, he looks like an old man nowadays. Its too early to write him off yet, but one good game and two games in which he has moved like an eighty year old doesn't look too good for Spida.

Official website report has a different best list:

Official AFL Website of the Sydney Swans > News Article > Swans Reserves Bounce Roos (http://sydneyswans.com.au/News/NewsArticle/tabid/7106/Default.aspx?newsId=60234)

Edit: Actually the same list with Davo in for Becko. Maybe a typo.

Can't seem to find your write-up, ORB. Maybe I'm just stupid.

But re the official Swans' write-up: after a review like that I'd like to have a couple of bucks on Davis returning next week. It's been near enough to exactly the month that Roos was talking about since he was dropped.

No disrespect to Luke Brennan, but the fact that he dominated at CHB at this level is a big 'so what?' A lack of big bodies might require Allison to play him there, but he's never going to get anywhere near that position at league level. If he can't get a game on the HBF/BP in the absence of Kennelly, hard to see when he's going to get one (unless, god forbid, one or more of Mattner or Malceski go down).

No mention whatsoever of Mathews in the official write-up means that he is on the outer (in case being dropped after one game didn't raise the suspicion), and barring major injury to others, has probably played his last game for the firsts.

Notice that Brendan Murphy didn't play even though we were well short of our maximum listed-player quota (15 Swans-listed players played, I think) and he's not on the injury list. Very hard to follow the Swans' selections for the 2s.

Faulks has very very consistently been in the best players this year (not another example of the Swans turning crap draft picks into gold, surely?), but I'm yet to hear much of a review on his style. Can anyone enlighten me? Is he still a couple of years off making a credible bid for selection?

Re Fossie: 'Injured his knee' could mean a whole range of things (e.g. Goodesie doing his PCL halfway through his unbroken run of 200 games). Any word on what's actually happened to Fossie yet?

Simon, appearance wise if you subtracted one from Columbo's number and blinked you would think the great Jason Saddington had returned. Very similar build and same hair.

Faulks has very good closing speed and times his spoils well. On occasions he has taken off up the field and used that speed to advantage. He also possesses the low penetrating and accurate kick we normally associate with left footers. He has been one who has benefited from the weakening of the ressies this year, because now there is plenty of work to do up back. At the moment I would consider him a shoo in to earn another contract, but would not expect him to debut until next year.

At the moment I would consider him a shoo in to earn another contract, but would not expect him to debut until next year.I'm lovin' it! For some strange reason, Saddo was always one of my favourite players (despite his inadequacies). Just had a sort of laconic air about him. Also had a good build for the modern wingman/flanker (190cm and rangy). Love the left-footers, too.

Given the Swans' softly-softly approach to young players, a 2009 debut for Colombo would be well ahead of the curve. Actually, if you could take a guarantee now that Colombo would play 140 games for us, you'd be a fool not to take it.

All hail the great Saddington!

The club still has not recovered from losing His Greatness.

There are players to just watch. And your are players you worship. Saddington was DEFINITELY in the latter category.

Ah, the mighty Saddington. He followed in the proud tradition of Robert Teal, Gareth John and Simon Minton-Connell as players I adored. He played more games for the club than the three of those combined, too...

Isn't SMC still playing in the country leagues in Vic somewhere???

I remember reading in the paper on Monday all the country results not so long ago and noted he was still there... Still kicking 12 goals or more regularly as well.... Pity he could never make that step to the AFL.....

Super article ORB. Thanks.

I always felt that before all his injuries Saddington wasn't that bad (Whoops! have I lost any shred of credibility i may have had?). Would have been fine as the 3rd tall, playing FB or CHB was just too much.

Hehehe, I'm glad you cleared that up, it was driving me nuts "Columbo's not a left footer.....is he?????". I was about to ring my mate to confirm it was you and not I that had taken leave of our senses. :p :p

Just on Fosdike.

On Fox Sports news there is a quick 15 sec grab of a MOL interview taken at training at the SCG this morning.

In the background, Kenny Williams grabs a water bottle and hands it to Fossie who runs in and appears to have no real strapping on his knee and appears to be training with the full squad.

Given he wasn't named in the injury update, perhaps the Gods are smiling and he is not seriously hurt, if at all.

Here's hoping **fingers X'd**

But anyone into omens would perhaps suggest that Fosdike returns in round 14, on July 5, against Collingwood.

In 2005, just like this season, he spent the first half of that year beset with knee problems. He didn't make his senior debut that year until the first week of July, in round 14. Less than three months later - with Fosdike rated by many as best on the ground - the Swans would win the grand final.

Funny how the memory can fade.

My memory is pretty bloody good, in fact when it comes to the Swans my missus reckons it's freaky, but for the life of me I can't remember that.

Mind you, it's almost 1am and I've polished off a couple of G & T's pre-dinner, the regulation bottle of red and am on my 3rd 'large' Cointreau and Ice so it's not surprising the memory may be hazy. :p :p

Fosdike has long been an MCG specialist.

Just about all his best games, 2005 GF included, have been there.

He is a hard runner and finds space, so I guess the MCG suits that style, lots of space to find.
