That's the one I'm most concerned about. Micky O, Leo and Vesz are known quantities, and the sooner they're back the better. Laidlaw, Schmidt and Smith, in that order, are the ones I want to see more of. And soon.

Well, at least it's an injury list NOT containing the name Daniel O'keefe for a change.
With a bit of luck he can stay off that list and get his name on the seniors team list.

The 9th April injury list still has Playfair as indefinite. This after no preseason for him. I presume he was on a 2 year contract when traded - in which case it could be the end for him. Bad luck - and we had better hope Johnston is a fast developer!

Current bright spots: the claim that MOL is only 1-2 weeks away. And the availability of Matt Laidlaw.

Sure, his first hitout (or two) will be in the seconds, but for his sake and ours, this is a guy we need to see a lot more of at the top level in 2009. At his best, with no disrespect to the likes of Brabazon and Thornton, he should be able to run rings around them in the race to be in our best 22.

Sure, at this point of the year you'll take bright spots where you can get them on the injury front.

Thanks Alison - that's a sort of good news. And although he will miss the experience of the twos, I don't think we would have seen him in the firsts this season anyway, at least not as a KPP. Let him concentrate on recovery, thorough recovery.

The official list has no real news. (http://www.sydneyswans.com.au/injury%20list/tabid/11505/default.aspx) Although the fact that Playfair is still 'indefinite' says for my money that he will make only a token impact in 2009, if any.

Unfortunately, with the senior list being 4-7 players down in 2010 from what it was come 1 January 2009 regardless of any choices made by the club (adding to the existing Fosdike and Kennelly, Leo Barry and Jared Crouch as IMO definites), the chance of Playfair being shown the door ain't high.

12 weeks for a broken arm - what happened? Normally after a broken bone you'd expect 6-7 weeks. Terrible luck for the young fella.

Triple B
26th May 2009, 10:34 AM
Terrible luck for the kid, but realistically he had a real good taste of it and now knows what he needs to work on and what to expect in the big time. If he had been killing them in the 2's and was just about to be picked in the seniors it would have been devastating, but as it has played out, he had his chance to impress, did just that and will be a much better player in the years to come because of it.

A broken arm is unlikely to cause him problems down the track, if it was his shoulder again it would have been a real worry.

It opens up a chance for a Laidlaw, Smith or Thornton to get another taste of it and in a few years it may prove to be a blessing in disguise.

Wow. Look at that. Tim Schmidt's career has gone from 'dead' to 'on life support, but may yet walk independently'.

With a number of players coming back (Murphy especially important because of our badly undersized backline brimming with top-ups), looks like the 2nds should finish the year pretty strongly and may well make the finals.

Roos and his match committee look set to be limited in their choices for the trip to Adelaide after Patrick Veszpremi (ankle), Mike Pyke (calf) and Daniel O?Keefe (concussion, possible cheekbone) failed to complete the Swans? reserves clash against Belconnen.

As excited as we reserves watchers have been getting that we might finally have found a truly promising young ruckman at the draft table, his injuries over the past two seasons are sobering. After all, many of us got similarly excited over the prospects of young Doyle before injuries ravaged his body and stopped his career before it ever got started.

Hopefully but he looked sore during the game ... knocked his shoulder and was holding it before continuing. Came back on after quarter time before getting another knock to it and not returning.

Definitely looked injured during the game but it's a question of how he pulled up - well accoding to the injury list i'd guess.

where is playfair at with his injury status, and is he likely to make his 1 month deadline given by the club.

if he is fit and gets the nod to stay, will he be just a depth player or could we even try him in defence.

any thoughts ?

Probably only Henry and the medicos have much idea about his progress at the moment. The fact that he was given the deadline suggests the club hopes he can make it.

I notice from the Kennedy story on the AFL site that training for all players begins on Nov. 2, so my question was a little premature. After last year's high attrition rate it'll be interesting to see how many of the wounded make it back.

Spoke with Ted after the final game - he said that the surgery had gone well and recovery was on track.
