The AFL site has posted a long interview with Mickey O by Leigh Matthews in which talks about his coaching aspirations. He's now AFL junior development coach and admits he's a long way from senior level, but doesn't disguise his interest.

Lethal seems positively enthused by the idea of an indigenous AFL coach. Mickey's a thoughtful, eloquent bloke who's been well-coached himself - he'd have to be a good chance.

He also talks about Eade, his friendship with Roos, the Bloods culture, indigenous footy, etc..

One of the coolest people ever to pull on an AFL jumper.

Thanks for pointing this out SoH. A really interesting interview, and sobering to get his comments on Nick D and Big Baz, handling it with realism but without animosity.
I wish Matthews had asked him about whether he struck any racial slurs on the field and how he dealt with it; would be worth hearing I imagine.
A fine player and I suspect a decent human being. I particularly liked the way he reinforced the aim of producing not just good footballers but good people. I'd like to see him get a coaching gig.

He's still Magic. Hope he gets the nod for the HOF this year.

He was on the Marngrook Footy Show last week talking about his current role and did imply that he would like to be a senior coach somewhere down the track
