Time for ANZ to go IMO.

Swans co-captain Jarrad McVeigh said he removed "metal stakes" from the turf during Saturday night's six-point loss to Collingwood at ANZ Stadium - a venue which includes among its owners, AFL commission chairman Mike Fitzpatrick.

Is anyone else fed up with the massive COI in the AFL atm?

Wow i had heard a bit about this yesterday, but thought surely not at an afl ground.

Absolutely staggering that this could have happened and any contracts we have with that stadium or the afl does should now be made null and void.

The stadium is just lucky the worst didnt happen and they could be facing some very serious law suits.

While NRL clubs were allowed to play Toyota Cup games at the venue last week, the Swans were asked to move their reserves to another ground.

This is the "Biggy" for me. If they dont want us to play there thats fine by me. Tear up the contract now.

The spokesperson for ANZ in the SMH is trying to cast doubt that these stakes were ever there. That is really disappointing as if they do something wrong they should fess up. Sick & tired of Corporate protectionism, if they get it wrong, especially something as bad as this, where a player or players are in danger of injury then they should be appologising profusely & throwing themselves at the mercy of the Swans & AFL

Sadly i think knowing that an afl chairman has his finger in the homebush stadium pie AFL will be played there until some freak or force of nature destroys the place to the ground.

If no one shows up and a massive loss is made then i think the AFL will pull out. even 15k in a 80k stadia is horrible, ask the south sydney rabbitohs.

Too many witnesses to deny it, I'd have thought. McVeigh found some stakes, reported it to someone on our bench, which resulted in the groundsmen checking the whole ground at quarter time. They can spin it as much as they like, but it had the potential to seriously injure a player.

That's a disgrace for a professional sporting ground.

I think the Pies blokes found them as well - So when does the contract expire?

So it's 'Spike' McVeigh ???

Sounds like this should be in the 'Media does it again' thread....

I used to be pretty anti-Homebush, but ever since moving to the top of the mountains I can really see that it's a well run place and we should continue to play as many, if not more, games there as we can! Spikes or not!

Sure he goes for a long smoke and cawfee when homebush stuff is brought up - but he still has $ interests in the stadium which the AFL, who he is a board member of, has a long term contractual agreement with.

This possibly counts as mischief making on my part but I note Malthouse doesn't mention Docklands in his summary there...

(note - I try to avoid using sponsored stadium names if I can)
