From Swans FaceBook:
John Longmire speaks to MMM footy around an hour out until the first bounce here at AAMI stadium. It's been a wet and dreary day here in Adelaide today. Some light rain is still falling. Nick Smith is a late withdrawal with hamstring tightness and has been replaced by Andrejs Everitt who will wear the sub vest.

Jeffers1984
2nd July 2011, 07:44 PM
Everitt Sub? The way he has been playing in the sub role we might as well just use the 3 currently on the bench and forget about Everitt.

Facebook and Twitter feeds both say "wet and slippery conditions for the game." Should make things interesting. Smith is a big out; hopefully the team can cover it.

Night games in Adelaide are wet and slippery normally, due to the heavy due which inevitably settles at West Lakes. Situation normal then.

Smith a loss, but he probably wouldn't have had an as vital shutdown role tonight anyway.

Hard to think of a worse set of conditions for this game. I was hoping we might leap out of the blocks and have them try and hide over there. But this will be a 40-60 points game - and it's hard to see us getting that sort of start.

Q1 - We looked very dangerous when we got it down their end (as it were) but it just didn't happen often enough. Parker looks to handle the wet brilliantly and Macca looked pretty good too. Johncock having too much influence at CHB for Adelaide atm.

wolftone57
2nd July 2011, 09:15 PM
The weather is terrible! We are not handling it too well. The Crows have been training in it all week so they have the advantage. Bloody awful conditions for footy. Won't be too many great moments tonight. Must say though Maca's pick up was a gem & Jetts has been pretty good

Still, we are in front and possibly have a more threatening fwd line.

wolftone57
2nd July 2011, 09:54 PM
We are terrible in the wet. Bloody Handball, who told these blokes it was a good option on a wet day, kick the @@@@@@ out of the ball & for goodness sake look to set up a bit more from the kick outs the big bomb isn't workin, nor is it working into the forwardline. Adam Goodes tries to finess too much & probably cost us a goal. White is a waste of space out there. Not the night for big guys but terrible, that kick that caused a goal*******. Parker has been good, suited to this, very much like Jude who is having a field day. Benny is falling over before the ball even arrives. Benny should be suited here. Bevo has tried hard, backs were good but the mids & forwards are allowing too many Crows to get free.

Big Al

CJK
2nd July 2011, 09:57 PM
Sam and Jessie not giving us much. Cold comfort that half their goals have come from frees.

Someone needs to tell the Fox Sports people that not only do they have subscribers in NSW (the most on a per state basis), but also that the game is being on broadcasted into NSW on Ten. As such the constant 'what the Crows need to do to win' stuff is really annoying.

wolftone57
2nd July 2011, 10:00 PM
We need to be careful of that litlle bastard Callinan, I remember him paying for Central District, he will nevere give up & very clever. He can also be a dirty little bugger too but after all he comes from Elizabeth bloody rough there.

Xie Shan
2nd July 2011, 10:04 PM
I'm worried because it's following the pattern of our previous two games in the wet this year (Geelong and Carlton) after a promising start. The Crows are not in that league, but whenever we don't get maximum reward for our efforts it lets the opposition in, and whenever you do that it's asking for trouble... I think it just confirms what we know already about our forward line structure, despite the enormous improvement we have shown in other areas, it is going to be hard for us to be a contender until we find a way to kick more goals...

annew
2nd July 2011, 10:06 PM
Why do we go in tall when the weather is wet with all the money put into football clubs surely they know what the weather is going to be

Doctor
2nd July 2011, 10:08 PM
At least half time is giving me a chance to watch some of the other game. Bombers up by miles. Cats kick 4 or 5 in 5 minutes to get within 6 and then 2 quick ones to the Bombers to pull them clear again. Anyway, back to the Adelaide Oval where two more quarters of frustration await...

Well we are stuffed now but seriously the umpiring has just been unbelievably bad.

I am so angry about this game. We have completely thrown this game away but the umpiring has been so hometown that if we don't get ridiculously get home town umpiring in the home games here there is something wrong

But long mire and the match committee need to start a look at themselves and the side they selected for this game. I am beyond angry because this was a game which we should simply have won.

6.14 another pisspoor kicking at goal effort. What a waste. This puts us right back int the ruck and because Of some stupid

And seaby completely dominated in the ruck but we still couldn't make the most of it.

Our "charisma" has gone. We miss Roos and Kirk.

I'm frustrated and angry after that performance. Too much cute stuff in that weather when we should have been belting it forward. As soon as I heard it was wet I was worried because we seem to struggle in that weather and it's good for a team that's down on morale and results to get a wet one cos the conditions can level things out. Despite all the shortcomings from our performance though, the most frustrating thing of all is that we would have won were it not for errant kicking. A lot of the behinds were rushed or snaps but the misses from Bevan, O'Keefe and Everitt were awful. Couple that with Bevan's mistake on Van Berlo at the other end and it wasn't a good quarter from him. The umpiring favoured them to an extent but it's not why we lost IMO.

White how horrible was he. What a pretender. Someone rang up SEN during the week and said he is built like Tarzan and plays like Jane. That is very unfair on Jane.
At least Jane would get a kick in a stampede.
What about Jetta. He kicks the early goal and yes got off a handpass in the last that resulted in a goal. But for the rest of the game was a no contest. Passenger of the first order. Right off him.
ROK might have the stats but that's about all. Missed that set shot then a few minutes later drops a sitter on the wing for a turnover and goal.
Dead set looked like Mattner was playing for the Crows. Every time we play in the wet he does those dumb handpasses to no one when he should be kicking when he is clear and about to run inside 50.
I reckon Adelaide players called for the ball from our blokes on a number of occasions.
How bad were our one out contests going forward.eg Bevan, Jetta and McGlynn.
So Kennelly has turned 30. That figures why he has talked himself up for another year. He was woeful and clubs now just sit on him and he makes error after error. Not that you can question his endevour.
Bird was terrific until injured, Bolton bloody fantastic, Hanners was good but please handball off instead of trying to kick a goal (lets himself down in this area continuously) Seaby again good. When someone has the intestinal fortitude to watch a reply please post how many centre clearances we had. I think Jetta,Everitt, Kennelly, all have to go, Jetta can't tackle, he gets sent back to the reserves for 1 week only, then straight back in, I think he definitely has a gold ticket, he does a couple of runs and that all we get, surely he has to do a lot more to hold his spot,

Kennelly is finished, too old too slow, I don't think Everitt is going to make it, why cant we bring Lewis Johnson in, leave forward, just let him stay there like we do for Reid, what have we got to lose, noone can kick any goals

A few players need to take a look at how hard Jude tries, he gives everything and more

I am sick of our team not kicking GOALS, what can we lose by trying something different!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a dreadful performance by the players and coaches. However I?m thinking (or perhaps more so hoping) this is a blessing in disguise. Like the Melbourne loss last year, hopefully tonight is a wake-up call that will do us more good than just getting by and thinking everything is OK.
We should have lost to Essendon and WC (and to an extent also North and Richmond), but winning those games has glossed over woeful selection and up-and-down efforts by certain players.

It is almost arrogance that we keep picking a completely unbalanced lineup and expect it won?t hurt us. Fair enough it won?t really matter against the top 4 teams as we?re not good enough to challenge them anyway, but it?s as though we think we can employ whatever selection policy we please against all other teams and it won?t catch up with us.

We still have no forward structure ? TDL and Moore would have been handy tonight. And I still say Richards, LRT and AJ can?t play in the same side ? they?re all poor kicks and moving the ball from defence has been a major issue for us all year. I don?t think it?s a coincidence Ted and AJ were out last week and we looked a lot better out of defence.

Above all else ? priority # 1: employ a $#*&%@! Meteorologist and keep their advice in mind when picking the side. We?re just not good enough (collectively or individually) to pick the same side regardless of the conditions and expect it will work.

White looks like he doesn't know how to play the game. Tonight the only time he got his hands on the ball was when it fell into his lap. If Spanger is playing so well in the 2's he must replace White. Reid plays like a CHF so putting Spanger up front as a power forward makes sense. He is a massive unit.

Was at the game tonight and cant start to explain my dissapointment. firstly i saw 22 blokes who to me thought that going though the motions tonight would be enough. Geelong played this sied last week without 8 regualrs, won by 60(??)ish points. We go in without maybe 2 of our bet and get done by 7 points. My question is 1- Where are we at, honestly, Are we that bad and lucky ot be where we are on the ladder due to a few close wins in the first half of the year. or 2 - did we just have a bad night???

Unfortnuatly i think we are in the 1 category.

What about man on man footy that we did so well in the last half last week. What about our goal kicking, jesus do they do any goal kicking practice at training? Some of the players that let us down;

LRT =Ordinary tonight
Goodes was trying to be too tricky it was not the right night to do that stuff; Ineffectual
Everritt came on late but was inefectual & had the chance to put us ahead & decided to kick off the ground. Two shots at goal both points & both gettable. The one running into goal & decided to kick off ground OH JASUS WHAT AC STUFF UP!!! He had Jesse running with him & only one opponent & if he took the ball could heve either drawn the opponent or drilled the goal
Benny was crap tonight got beaten by 3 opponents
Shaw had to go down back & frankly I was breathing much easier when he went forward, the move made far too late as Johncock was carving us up. Bevo tried to hold him but not good enough.

We missed Smith

I thought Parker was very good in & under but there were too many of our mob doing the same job & no-one outriding except when Birdie, Lewie or Hannas trying to break the sides.

Kennelly was very ordinary tonight & it pains me to say that but I think he is really slow now!

Unfortnuatly i think we are in the 1 category.

to be honest with you I have been saying this all year, we have won most of our games by very small margins & if they had of been losses instead of wins we would have been near the bottom of the ladder. We have been fortunate but we are developing a very good side just not the one we played today. TDL kicked 11 goals in the 2's & if he doesn't get a run next week I think sack the coach & the selection committee & @@@@@@ them all. Get rid of Jesse as he is another Fitzie!!! Looks great never delivers!! Time to look to the furure & bring Byron Sumner into the side doing great things in the 2's & I loved the way LJ was able to kick in against the Pies & hit a player 70 metres away on the chest. time to put LRT out to pasture for a while. Spanger has to come in & play the 2nd ruck role & CHF. while we are at it lets bring in Nipper to give the forwardline a real bit of zip. Piss off Benny for a couple of weks as he has been pretty ordinary for a while. He needs to freshen up!

LRT =Ordinary tonight

Don't agree - thought LRT was good.
Parker was good and thought Shaw was one of our better.

Embarrassing...appalling....the expectations they were so sure of has made a fool of themselves. Worst loss of the year, and we have to surely now all agree that we DO NOT HAVE A FORWARD LINE!!!!! And there is not one in sight....had enough of this mob...

I have been saying this all year & been ignored. Finally someone agrees with me! If you put Spanger, TDL & maybe Benny & Reiddy, Maca maybe or Nipper we could have a forwardline. Byron into the middle to give some real clearances & think about Currie (Crusher) because I think he is the future of the ruck as much as I like Mummy & Seabs! We do not want to lose this bloke as he is rough as guts & that is what wins premierships!!!

Was at the game. Wasn't the best effort however please keep in mind the conditions were absolutely @@@@ house. Had been raining hard all day, would be silly do make judgements on any players based ONLY on tonights games.

Would have been nice sitting out in the rain watching them kick goals rather than behinds though.

Don't agree - thought LRT was good.
Parker was good and thought Shaw was one of our better.

Tippett was really good for them if he was not getting the ball he was hitting it forward or blocking for other players & LRT gave away a couple of very soft free kicks, comes from playing on the forward line & being asked to go back all of a sudden. I think he needs a few resie games to get his ballance back. LRT was soundly beaten today & he gave away 3 frees 2 of which got goals.

I said Parker & Shaw were good! I never said these players were down I though Parkers effort really good. That Shimmy in the first was super, a glide not a baulk, just beautiful I used to to do just the same thing & didn't move very far so cute!!! Shawie had to fill gaps today cos Nickie was not in but I think that was a mistake & they should have taken another tagging mid like Byron instead of Everritt.

Next Week OUT;

Everritt
White
Bevo (Tries Hard Just not quite good enough)
LRT (Tried Hard but was soundly beaten needs to be retrained at another level Resies)
As far as i am concerned Benny has got to be on a string, he has performed in only half of the games this season & today was not one of those. I think he needs a rest as well.
Tadhg could do with a rest as well he was pretty ineffectual tonight & his opponent was pretty good.

wolftone57
3rd July 2011, 02:08 AM
I think the difference between the sides was the effort by Adelaide to push the ball on at all costs & kick to a position & Jared Petrenko! He killed Kennelly & I don't konw if Tadhg even knew he was on him

Mummy over the hill? Now I've heard it all!

I never said Mummy was over the hill nor is Seabs as he is only 26 but I think the young bloke has a lot go give & it will be a lot more than Mikie Babie I think. Mikie is lovely & takes a very good mark but this young bloke is going to be here for the premiership years for us!!

What's more he is called Crusher & I can tell you it is not because he is overweight! He throws his weight around & protects his small players & he does it without getting reported WOW!!!! This is something our footy club needs & hasn't had since Plugger & Spider.

I like Currie a lot and I hope he makes it, but throwing his weight around isn't one of his noted strengths. In fact, the coaches probably want him to do more of that and he's too nice for his own sake.

Yep, we need a forward who can take marks and won't be pushed around. White either needs to belt someone and cop the suspension, or get rid of him, worst passenger I have ever seen in a swans jumper. A game we should have won but for lamentable goal kicking

Let's say for argument's sake that he is the type to throw his weight around, knock around a few blokes at the stoppages and get really aggro - do you think that's what cost us the game tonight? Would the inclusion of this hypothetical angry Currie help us win games?

Sorry we are supposed to be a top 8 side & this mob are 14th on the table & even though on their dunghill we have an 11 for & 13 now 14 against at AAMI Stadium. Better known as Footy Park to Adelaidians. The expectation was a win & even though the weather was bad we should have still won. I am sorry but the get over it thing I don't get! We are in this Comp to win it not to make up the numbers & if that is your attitude then no wonder the Swans took 40 years to win anothewr Preniership!! Winning is everything!!! The Premiership the goal of every footballer & the epitomy of greatness in this arena! Don't tell me to get over it! If I feel like venting I will thank you as I think that this forum supports that to a certain extent. We lost because we created the conditions to lose!!!

Ugg I am not talking about angry I am talking protection of the smaller blokes & if you had read my earlier post you would have read that I am impressed by the way thev young bloke impresses himself on the game by throwing his weight around legally not illegally!!!! He protected his smalls created avenues for them by putting his body on the line & shepherding for them, great stuff! Mummy does the same thing & I think it may be a run off from Mummy!! I haven't seen a great deal of him but was impressed by that part of his game the times I did see him

Sorry I don't buy that at all. They were crappy conditions- but that is absolutely no excuse to lose to a team that had won 3 games all year and lost their last 6. If you want to be a quality football team, then you just win games like that tonight. We shot ourselves in the foot with crap disposal, rubbish kicking from goal and being outenthused. I am very unhappy with that and it may come back to bite us hard. Bad conditions is no excuse for not beating a team that you should be beating comfortably!

We were utter tripe tonight. Far too much kick it and hope, and as per the usual absolutely @@@@ing woeful in front of goal- I'm especially looking at you O'Keefe and Everitt- 3 massive chances wasted in the last quarter, all very kickable. Why Everitt didn't pick that ball up I will never know.

Our in and under guys did fine, but we had no plan of attack as to how we were trying to play tonight. Far too many tim

I know the conditions were bad, but seriously that can not be seen as an excuse. We lost to a very ordinary football team, and instead of keeping well away from the teams on the edge of the eight, we've been dragged back into the fold with them and if we don't vastly improve our goalkicking and general skills, we could yet miss the finals. Really annoyed about that performance tonight- utterly woeful.

Must say though I liked the look of Parker- he looks a good in and under player to me and hopefully we will see more of him. Everitt though should never have been selected as sub, and well Jetta might run fast, but thats about all he can do at the moment for large periods of the game- his disposal generally is woeful.

But it's needed rectification all season. This was not a night for marking forwards - so you might think it would have suited our non marking forwards. But we simply do not make the most of our opportunities. And this happens over and over again

I really, really, really don't like the way they go into a competition for the ball and shepherd a player instead of trying to pick up the ball.

It happened about 20 times - the crows came through and picked up the ball easily and ran away with it.

Whichever coach is training this and allowing this to happen should be getting a massive kick up the arse.

IMO - that's what lost us the game - oh, and our @@@@ kicking in front of the sticks.

I agree completely and also there is a lot of that when the ball is in the air. Too often our players are doing the right thing keeping their opponent under the ball but not themselves trying to get the ball and the ball goes over their heads and hits a leading forward on it's chest or alternatively goes another 30 metres down the line.

Have a look how often the ball went over the back of a defenders for us to go back and have to try and force the ball over the line about thirty metres further down the field.

Personally I don't think Bird is much of a player anyway so who cares whether he comes back on.

Well I cared and I'd reckon plenty other RWO'ers cared. I betchya Scott Thompson cared, he may have thought he might be able to get an uncontested possession at last.

We have had a forward line all season??

We had a back man, a very small forward, and other rubbish pretending to be a forwards, and their kicking showing that they are not.

Why this is still not seen by the coaching pannel shows what how crap they are.

How many games must go by when we kick 5.15 and still there is not a change.

We are lucky to be in the eight, but there is now a good chance we will not play final footy!
