View Full Version : Balmain unable to pay players for 2011...

I have continuously recently heard from a variety of sources that Balmain's expected windfall of income has fallen through, and will now significantly struggle to meet the commitments they've made to their players for 2011 in terms of player payments.
Their financial situation is in a state of dissarray, and now have significantly bitten off more than they can chew.
Does anyone else have more details around this? Assuming Balmain won't want to speak about this, but I am interested to see if there is any fire to the smoke/rumours that are currently circling the club.
I've heard of a number of Balmain players are already looking at options to join the NEAFL and other club's that can actually deliver what they promise.
I feel for Balmain as they will now learn that you cannot buy loyalty.... especially without any money.

I hear they're actually a front for a renegade lodge of Freemasons and the money is tied up in various artifact hunts.

Hi guys..... I am happy to let you know that the windfall has not fallen through. The property was sold via vote at the AGM and we have received the first stage of payments and all players will be paid for 2011.
If players are speaking with clubs about an NEAFL possibility we definitely support them in their efforts to play at a higher level as we have in the past sending some of our best young talent to East Fremantle.
Obviously I cannot go into any further detail of club issues, but just wanted to let you know the above facts.

So you guys did load up the Sports Club's membership base with those with a vested interest in Balmain Dockers, then voted to sell it at the AGM? Wish I had have thought of it.

Fantastic idea!
Maybe we (UTS) should look to target community focused & owned groups who have valuable assets that are purely for the benefits of their members and see who we can sell-off for the growth and benefit of our club!
I love it, great idea Balmain! Ethics that NOTW would be proud of!

What would of been funnier is stacking the membership and voting it down at the AGM.

I thought was a great response by Balmain and it may be that the other comments were made out of jealousy.
The fact of the matter is, Balmain have certainly made a big contribution to raising the profile of the Sydney AFL by attracting quality players and turning around their on-field performance.
The coaching staff are doing an excellent job. Take a guy like Travis Stevens who was a fringe first grader under Hally in 2009. He is leading BMRs Sydney AFL Top 10s now.
I applaud them for their efforts on and off the field. Let's see what happens with their finances but for now, acknowledge how well they are going.

Offal unfortunately that?s just the way it works in Sydney afl. Anyone who is doing well gets bagged out from everyone else. ECE were perennial runner up's so people would bag them out for being chokers..... Now they are the bench mark and people bag them and their "10" coaches out for being "poachers". Sydney Uni have won a lot of games over the last couple years and everyone complains about their scholarship system and that they take all the good juniors. Balmain are finally winning a few games and everyone says they are buying wins and stealing pubs.
The fact that you get uneducated idiots on here like Devils Ad whinging and complaining because someone else is winning games just goes to prove my point.
Sydney afl is not an even playing field and until the under 18s can be evenly distributed and all the best players in Sydney are playing in the Premier division nothing will change!
Let the clubs us use whatever tools and recourses they have and stop complaining!

None of this is getting us any closer to Eden's apple before the Masons.

ECE have been poaching players for years. Nothing to do with them currently being a "bench mark".
Sydney Uni have won a lot of games over the last couple years and everyone complains about their scholarship system and that they take all the good juniors.
The complaints about the scholarship system and the way they built their Under 18s side have little to do with any on-field success Sydney Uni may or may not have.
Balmain are finally winning a few games and everyone says they are buying wins and stealing pubs.
Now, that one I'm not sure about....:)

Isnt Balmain and the club old news - been involved in Syd footy for 20 years and they have always had some involvement there I thought and at the end of the day I always was under the understanding they pretty much kept it ticking along.
Whilst Ive never believed in splashing out Mercanaries to achieve success ahead of developing your own young players at least by getting the amount of ex AFL players on board that the Dockers have it will fast track what they have and guys like Saddo are quality people to have around the club which should help with culture.
Ive had no problems in the past poking a bit of fun at the boys at Dockerland in the past but I can say that my encounters with them this year has changed my perceptions somewhat and from my outside perspective there are a few influential and passionate people there who are hell bent on nurturing their own juniors with a longer term view to the future.
Anyway good luck to em.

What's that got to do with anything?
I wasn't posting out of jealousy, if that's what you were implying.
