In fact, all the team is making their debut for the club! And many will be playing their first AFLW game to boot! I think that all of Ella Heads, Genevieve Lawson-Tavan, Sarah Skinner, Paige Sheppard, Molly Eastman and Aimee Whelan will be playing their first ever AFLW games. So exciting! Many of these players have also grown up barracking for the Swans which makes it extra-thrilling for them e.g. Alana Woodward, the Hamiltons. Apparently Maddy Collier represented the Swans once before in an exhibition match a few years ago.

A lot of women there with something to prove. It will be interesting to see how they play. Not sure Mon Hams spends too much time at CHF. It should be a close game but the Saints will start favourites.

I'm really looking forward to watching the Swans battle the Saints this weekend. It's going to take me a while to remember all the players' names and numbers, but how exciting is it? We've waited a while to get our own team in the AFLW competition. I hope out ladies enjoy every moment of it!

I'm pretty sure a lot of our players have been named in positions different to those they will play.

I upgraded my membership to game entry but my digital ticket in the Swans app says "redeem only". Any idea wha that means?

I'm completely confused by the membership / game access. I bought a standard membership (the $75 one) primarily to support the club financially. It's really hard to tell from what appeared in my wallet and even from the email I received from the club what I am actually entitled to. I had no intention to going to NSO today, so it's no big deal. But I'll probably try and get along to the SCG game, and maybe the Henson Park one, depending on what else is going on around then.

I haven't fully succeeded redeeming my ticket either - you have to go via ticketmaster (which entail getting a login and password etc :( ). However, I can advise that the process is much simpler for the AFL game (and other larger venues) and you can just flash your barcode like when entering for men's games (from your phone or whatever).

I think if you follow instructions included at this link you can access AFLW tickets.

I think ‘redeem’ means you have the rights to a ticket but need to go through same process as if you were buying a ticket to access it. See instructions at link I posted above.

They need to do this for small capacity grounds to ensure there are not too many tickets sold. It won’t be necessary at the SCG (as even in our wildest dreams I don’t imagine we expect 44,000 spectators at a Swans AFLW match).

Can you just rock up to the game at NSO today and get in , or is it a sellout ?

You need a ticket.

Purchase (or redeem for AFLW members) through Ticketmaster. Follow link I posted earlier.

Last time I looked there were still GA standing room tickets available.

What are the ins from the trial against Collingwood...is it just the three high draft picks and did Collingwood have their top side..Collingwood looks like they'll be a leading contender this year so that form from the trial wasn't too bad..I remember in that game Collingwood had a really talented forward player that was the big difference and we ran out of puff

They were thinking it might sell out a week ago but looks like it isn't going to be. Only half tickets sold 48 hours ago.

That doesn't work for me - there are no AFLW barcodes showing where they should be inside my membership page - but they are there for finals tickets. I guess I'll just go there and see Membership.

The only ‘in’ that I’ve picked up compared with the Swans team v Collingwood in the practice match is Sarah Skinner #15.

It looks like a pretty decent crowd in for the game. Good start in that quarter- you can see why there's so much excitement about Montana Ham, KPP/ruck size but comfortable running around in the midfield.

I didn't catch her name, but the forward with the red and white helmet looks like she's trying to stand on shoulders every time the ball goes in there.

Cynthia Hamilton one of the Hamilton sisters who has a very cool goal celebration with Sarah Skinner..they've both kicked goals..thats a shame...the injury to Montana..hope for the best.
Really like the look of Molly Eastman number 9 down back

The umpires were their usual bad.
Ella Heads, Brenna Tarrant
Aimee Whelan tired a bit but she was good.
Good game

Despite the loss that was thoroughly enjoyable. Thought the Swanettes played with skill and flair but were out done by a more experienced team.

Definitely won themselves a fan!

Good signs from Swans women. Look well coached trying to play attractive footy With only a very short pre-season to learn as a squad in this their first year, plenty of improvement seems likely,

And another fan here also ..just hope Montana is fine...that long kick out to the left was a beauty..really liked them throwing Cynthia Hamilton for a while into the midfield..

Enjoyed that despite the result. The team will improve significantly over time, this i just the beginning. I like the style of footy we were trying to play.

Gee hope that Montana is okay, fingers crossed. Very easy to see why she went as no 1 in the draft.

What a great crowd too - not sure NSO is a great place for footy (it really is a postage stamp ground - maybe we should play Collingwood there in the Men's footy ) but it is picturesque and a great turn out!

Great vibe, pretty ground, good and excited/supportive crowd.

Lots of the male players and coaches in attendance, as well as other staff and the Board.

I agree that Aimed Whelan was good - not a player I had really given any consideration before.

Brenna Tarrant also had many good moments.

Cynthia Hamilton has exhibited star qualities and scored goals every chance she's had so far.

The glimpses of Montana Hamilton were really exciting. Terrible news about her injury. I'm scared she's done an ACL. She seemed to feel the same way. Awful outcome if that's the case.

I hate to say it but we looked a long way off the standard of last night's Melbourne-Adelaide game. It's gonna take a few seasons before we're ready to seriously contend I fear.

The weather cleared, rode my bicycle to the ground (not a bike rack to be found), couldn’t believe it was only $10 to get in, exuberant crowd, around 8,600.
They were so delighted to be playing senior footy and it was terrific to see the Swans (M) players there with kids , Horse and crew lining up as they came out of the race .
The skill level was excellent from both sides.

I think that was Cynthia Hamilton, pick 11. Decent game. Hamilton excites with spectacular first goal (https://www.afl.com.au/video/831081/hamilton-excites-with-spectacular-first-goal?videoId=831081&modal=true&type=video&publishFrom=1661589322001) I liked this snap, thought it might have given us a bit of momentum coming into the last quarter but the Saints sneaked one in on the siren.

No.1 pick cleared of ACL injury, anxious wait for Lion (https://www.womens.afl/news/100981/no-1-pick-cleared-of-acl-injury-anxious-wait-for-lion)
Ham does not have an ACL injury, though the exact nature of the injury is not yet known. Lions are hoping for similar news for Postlethwaite, who is playing her first game after rupturing her ACL last year.

That’s a relief. Hopefully this means her injury will heal without need for surgery.

Apart from her football career her schooling is very important this year as she is completing Year 12.

I know it was reported she was in high spirits after the game but to not have the worry and journey of an ACL injury in the context of her HSC year would be a nice outcome..
Hopefully the Brisbane player gets similar good news...heartbreaking if it's ACL again

Well it felt a bit like a country footy game for the fans (8,600 odd) being able to lean over the fence and shout encouragement.
Their skills were splendid, there were some fabulous grabs just when you thought, I don’t reckon anyone (men or women) could take that mark.
It was a hard and willing contest and they thoroughly enjoyed their debut with so many supporters including so many from the mens team present to witness and support them .

Oh my goodness she's just a kid! Her performance was even more impressive given her youth. It was gut-wrenching watching her leave the ground, such a relief it isn't an ACL.

But a very mature kid/young woman with a clear view of her goals. Article below has quotes from before the season started, so pre her knee injury.

“Every Friday I’ll fly up to Sydney and do Friday and Saturday trainings here at the club before flying back for school.

“I have a really good support network around me, and my school (Overnewton Anglican Community College) has been great as well.

“They’ve helped me strike the right footy-school balance and obviously school comes first. Scott is so understanding of that.”

From the Swans AFLW injury report: all players who played Round 1 are expected to be available for Round 2 with the exception of Montana Ham.

Montana suffered a right knee ligament strain and has commenced a rehabilitation program. It is expected she will be likely to return to play in 4 weeks.

I assume she is doing rehabilitation back home in Melbourne but that wasn’t made explicit.

Ah, just read that Montana was going to school today so she must be back in Melbourne.
