Hi and welcome to another edition of Benny?s Corner and Round 9 of the 2004 SAFL Division 1 Premiership Season. I have decided to change the name of this article back to its original name so people are more familiar with it.

I will review the UTS-Penrith match from Alan Davidson Oval and also preview the Redandwhiteonline.com Match of the Day at Dukes Oval between Penrith and UNSW/ES.

Last weekend Penrith traveled to Alan Davidson Oval to take on the in-form UTS Bats. It had been 2 years since Penrith had a victory against UTS. Would Penrith be successful on this sojourn east or will the Bats succeed in this first seniors match at the new facility? Let?s head out to Alan Davidson Oval to find out.

In the first quarter, UTS came out and immediately put scoreboard pressure on the struggling Rams. The Bats put on 5 unanswered goals before Penrith could score their first goal. A late goal to UTS saw them go into the first change with an unassailable 33 points.

Penrith were shell-shocked.

Quarter Time: UTS 6.3=39 Penrith 1.0=6

In the second quarter, whatever Penrith coach Jason Bradley said to his players must have worked, because Penrith was a rejuvenated team and they came out and kicked 2 quick goals to instill some belief back into the Penrith players. This was answered by a quick UTS goal but close to the end of the quarter, Penrith kicked another goal to go into Halftime with some restored confidence. The margin at the long break was a manageable 26 points.

Half Time: UTS 7.7=49 Penrith 3.5=23

After the Halftime break, UTS came out fired up and put the game beyond Penrith?s reach but kicking 4 goals to 2 to again establish a 42 point lead at the final change.

Three Quarter Time UTS 11.15=81 Penrith 5.9=39

In the last quarter UTS kicked 2 quick goals before Penrith kicked the next 1 goal and 3 behinds. A late UTS goal saw them easy winners by 56 points.

Final Score: UTS 14.20=104 defeated Penrith 6.12=48

Now to the Redandwhiteonline.com Match of the Day

Penrith v UNSW/ES at Dukes Oval

On Thursday night at the selection of the teams to play UNSW/ES tomorrow, Chairman of Selectors Joe Bradley and his coaching panel decided to go for a younger lineup. ?We have reached the halfway mark of the year and we have only won one game so we as a committee decided to pick a younger first grade lineup?. Penrith go into this match tomorrow outsiders but the 22 players picked in first grade will have a red hot go.
