im not sure where this thread should be, so move it if u feel the desire...

leigh matthews a few weeks ago was saying that he was holding back the floodgates up at brisbane as far as player retention goes

so my question is this, of the brisbane unit, who would you like to see running around in the red and white? the cap pressure must be unbelievable up there, whatsmore we could afford these players

i cant see them getting rid of voss, lappin, black, brown, scott twins, power, and a number of others

that is, the players i could see them offloading maybe (ages at end of season 2003):

michael, 26
leppitsch, 27
aker, 26
johnson, 27

i cant believe the size of these brisbane players, id like to know their diet/workout regime... theyre all tanks

out of those 4,i would want aker or leppitch, although i think leppitch just signed up for a few more years.Aker would be very handy indeed.

If our youth develops as is expected - who would you drop to fit Acka in? We won't get a key position player!

Non for my call!

Micky O? - Not likely
Tige K - Never
Davis - Nah
Matty Nicx - Looking better all the time
Schnider - Too bright a prospect
Cressa - Maybe? - Willo, Crouch etc. Etc to fill in that void.
Fixter - one of last years best
Frosty - Kept to replace Cressa and Flood buster (Long kick)

No room

Goes against the youth policy - NuN.......

If Schneider has performed consistantly throughout this year, then at the end of the year i probably wouldn't have any hesitation in giving up Buchanan and Ablett, and maybe a second rd pick for Acker, only 26 or 27,so still would have a few good years left.
(even throw in frosty for good measure too, lol)

IMO when frosty plays this year he better get at least 20 possessions and be extremely damaging as he also goes against the youth policy...

if he gets a heap of game time this year i will be disappointed, id rather see sunny, ablett, thewlis, macleski or dempster in the team than frosty

he could be quite handy in the 2s as he will be a senior player who could show the kids some leadership

past his used by date IMO

frosty will be 28 by season's end

i think we would have plenty of room on our list for the likes of aker... he is a brownlow medalist and is still young for his experience, he is damaging, a match winner and another goal kicker. he is very much far from being a has been whatsmore...

i think there is a possibility of snagging a KPP from brizzy, ie lethal has come out and said he hasnt seen anyone else slot into a team like brennan.
he is young with a bit of growth left in those bones and he is already 192 cm... he got named as an emergency on the weekend and im sure matthews would be itching to play him, so who could he drop? no one, therefore get something for the senior player and blood the junior...

it also seems that mal michael is out of contract at the end of the season, ie im presuming he is on a 3 year contract as he signed with the lions at the beginning of the 2001 season...

if aker and michael's contracts are up, they would have to be struggling to resign them without the thought of the mexican clubs getting their way...

If Michael is out of contract, it would be sheer incompetence by the footy department if he wasn't targetted big time.

I tend to feel the same, especially where our defense is concerned (let's see how the year pans out though first). We might also see some of our more youthful players really step up to the plate this year. I guess with Cressa going at the seasons end there'll be at least one vacant spot (which I think Aker would be handy for).

I couldn't agree more with Penga about Frosty. It might be real hard for him to secure a spot in the seniors this year, real de-listment material imo.

I cant believe he is on the list still to be honest. Frosty passed his used by date last year. He is a sub standard AFL player, it is embarrasing to have him on the list.

i once again note that i am presuming that he had a 3 year contract, i cant imagine itd be anything else though...

on one passage of play on the weekend, michael had the ball and lloyd went to tackle him and michael through him off like he was a rag doll, the man's strength is amazing, he is also only listed at being 190cm, he plays a lot taller than that!

I'd be really surprised if they didn't want him any longer (even more surprised than when Collingwood let him go).

hmmm, dont shoot my excitement too early :D

however as far as salary cap goes, could they fit him under? thats where he might slip through... i really dont think brisbane could resign anyone through this year, but i could be wrong...

sorry to bring this topic up again but ive been dwelling on this idea for a while now...

if we were able to get michael and aker (i realise this is a relatively large pipe dream) but i firmly believe that we would be serious premiership contenders... there is still plenty of room around these two to still develop the rookies...

i also strongly believe that we could have a good shot at getting them

imagine if we had a side looking like this:

b: fixter michael c. bolton
hb: barry LRT saddington
c: kennelly j. bolton crouch
hf: aker doyle magic
ff: davis hall nicks
fol: goodes williams maxfield
int: o'keefe stevens schneider fosdike
emerg: meiklejohn powell kirk

the reason i put LRT at chb is coz i wouldnt mind a trade of schauble for michael, i dont know who for aker but... ablett and mathews would suffice

if james gets up this year and finally gets over his injury id still like michael, but at chb and james at FB

these are my thoughts anyways

u got admit that that forward line is lethal

I'm going yum, yum at that line up too. I reckon Powell has got the it factor.

Don't forget that Dempster and McVeigh should both be "players" at some stage soon.

Mal Michael is the premier FB in the competition IMHO.

he's got everything - huge (190????), poise on the ball, controlled animal, positioning, strength, decision making (punch or mark).

Iwant him, Mummy!

the list i posted is one for next year, i think dempster and mcveigh and whatsmore thewlis would be 2005 players

if we could base our defense around the likes of michael, it would be a very steady back line... he would take dunks role and do more coz he can kick, not only that on both sides of his body!

It would be nice if this dream would become reality.

I read the new guy at Brissy saying that it was criminal and bad planning that 1/3 of the players were up for renewal. Now I reckon most players are on a 2 or 3 year contract, so what does he expect? It seemed a non-sensical comment to me.

well bugger me, if 1/3 of their list is out of contract theyre definitely gonna have to let go a few... they must be super tight with the salary cap, i even think that alastair lynch is out of contract at the end of the season (not that we would want him)... u would expect for him to take a substantial pay cut though

do u know where u read this bron?

if they achieve a 3peat (which i think looks very much on the cards), i think they would look to start to put some groundwork down to start to rebuild, maybe anyway...

It was in either the Australian or the SMH, my guess the Australian almost 2 weeks ago.
