Well it is finally here......

The start of the 2003 SFA Premiership Season....

The season will be full of suprises and looks like being very close. Tomorrow there are 3 games to start off the season.
Wollongong and Sydney Uni face up at North Dalton Park in a replay of the second semi final which Sydney Uni won to go through to the Grand Final against UNSW/ES. Wollongong at home should prove too strong for Sydney Uni and will win by 8 points in another tight tussle.

The Norwest Jets take on UTS at Bensons Lane. The Jets will be buoyed by their good showing against an in-form Penrith outfit two weeks ago at Quakers Hill. Again in a close game, the Jets will win by 10 points.

South West Sydney takes on Macquarie Uni at Rosedale Oval and should be too strong in a game where the marking prowess of Chris Lees should win out. The Magpies by 20 points.

5 teams have the bye and will be able to finalise their pre-season training regimes in an effort to start the season off on the right foot with a win. Those 5 teams who have the bye are Penrith, Parramatta, Cronulla, UNSW/ES (the premiers from 2002) & Manly.

Penrith: Have trained extremely well under the guidance of first year coaches Stephen Allen and Jason Bradley. Have shown good form to suggest that the Rams will be there come finals time. Will finish well in games. Have acquired a new home at Emu Plains as well as forming alliances with St Clair and the Western Jets.
In the first five weeks of the competition, the Rams
have the bye in Round 1,
face up to Parramatta in the local derby in Round 2,
christen the new ground at Dukes Oval in Round 3 against UNSW/ES,
are on the road in Round 4 vs UTS
are back home at Dukes in Round 5 against Sydney Uni.

Parramatta: Will be looking for a first-up win against bitter rivals Penrith on Anzac weekend. Will be strong throughout the team with players such as Pat Gallagher having a good few years with the Goannas. Expect the Goannas to be there in late August at the business end of the year. In the first five weeks of the competition, the Goannas
have the bye in Round 1
play Penrith in the local derby in Round 2
travel to Cronulla in Round 3 to face the Sharks
face up to the Premiers in Round 4 at Village Green
play the UTS Bats in Round 5 at Goanna Park

UNSW/ES: The merger has worked for this club. After winnning both the Sydney Football League Premiership and the Sydney Football Association Premiership, the Bulldogs will be hungry for more. Their premiership defence program starts at home on Saturday 26th April against Manly. In the first five weeks of the competition, the Bulldogs:
have the bye in round 1
play Manly in Round 2 at Village Green
face up to Penrith on the Rams turf at Emu Plains in Round 3
play Parramatta at Village Green in round 4
Play first of 3 Twilight games at Village Green vs Cronulla

Cronulla: Will be looking to improve on their showing in 2002. With their first game of the season being at Rosedale on Anzac weekend, they will be hoping to get off to a good start. In the first five weeks of the competition, the Sharks
have the bye in round 1
play SWS in round 2
are at home in round 3 vs Parramatta
home again in Round 4 vs Wollongong
are on the road again in Round 5 when they play a twilight game at Village Green against UNSW/ES.

Manly: Also will be looking to improve on their showing in 2002. With their first game of the season being at Village Green on Anzac weekend, they will also be looking to get off to a good start. In the first five weeks of the competition, the Wolves
have the Bye in Round 1
play the premiers in Round 2
play the Bats in Round 3
face up to Sydney Uni in Round 4
play Macquarie Uni at Weldon in Round 5

Until next week
