Big Baz set to sign a 4 year deal worth a cool $2 mill. Not bad if you can get it, but good value IMO for the Swans relative to some of the other show ponies running around the comp

Money extremely well spent.

He is one of the few swans who rarely has a dirty day, even when he is not kicking a handful of goals, he is out and about looking for the pill, and feeding into the F50.

I have no problem in spending the cash on Baz either. He has become a revelation at this club and has become an excellent team player - always goes back in for the ball and doesn't throw tantrums when it's not put on his chest.

YOU ROCK BARRY!!

"$2 million baby"???

Does this mean we have to add an extra "B" to "BBBH"?

Well worth it! I like the way Ireland runs things.

Worth every penny.

Great deal.

He could command more than $500,000 per year on the open market and with the deal dependent on bonuses to get the full $2 million over 4 years, I say the Swans have got themselves a real bargain.

I reckon he's being underpaid.

It says alot about the spirit at the club if players are willing to sign for less than they could get elsewhere.
Congratulations to the Swans for securing him for Four Years, and Thankyou to Barry Hall for agreeing to the deal :)

"He is entitled to expect a base of $2 million-plus for the next four years, with bonuses for awards and specific goalkicking targets"

I think you'll find with sponsorship and endorsements his pay packet will be well over the 500,000/yr.

He deserves it :D

On the open market, Hall could expect to get offers of around $600,000-$700,000 depending on the club and its need for a key forward. Was talk just after the Wizard Cup that Fevola could get around $600,000 from a club like West Coast. Just think what they would offer Hall.

Great deal if it gets done

The bad news for RWO is that the Swans have decided to go long contacts all round. By popular demand, the first in line are LRT, Nicksy, B1 and Stewie who are all being offered 10 year contracts.

Great news!!

Money very well spent!!

Some on RWO were wanting to trade him after the Kangas match but there is NO way we would have beaten Brisbane without him!

The Badness is an awesome player. No backmaen get an easy kick when he's around, and the hard work he puts in at the club both during the week and on match days is superb.
The Badness is worth every cent.

If we can only work out a way to get rid of LRT to free up $25k per year for the Badness........

Its disappointing to me that he has SO MUCH hair this year. The baldness added to the aura.

Big Bald Barry Hall.

I can't tell whos being serious anymore. But Im still serious about trading Hall. 2 mill?? ffs, he's only got a few good years left in him, I reckon we trade him for that Franklin kid, plus the Hawks' first round draft pick - which will be the first pick this year.

I think congratulations should go to all concerning the negotiations of the resigning of Barry. Money well spent. Will reflect on the other players who's contracts are coming up as to the professionalism of the swans and loyalty to the club which can be seen as a rarity seen in many sporting codes today. Sometimes it is the $$$$ value that rules the sportmans decision.

And who would take over Hall's role? Magic? Saddo?

I think we have more depth in our team than most people recognise. But I can't think of how the team could be restructured right now if we lost Hall. He is our lynchpin and more consistent (and less injured) than any other key forward in the competition. Keep him and grow or lose him and start rebuilding.

The hair he has adds to the scariness. Which is strange because when Nicks has hair you expect him to talk about his little mate Quentin (Tarantino).

Just listening to an interview with Andrew Ireland on SEN, he confirmed Barry has signed the contract and there will be a media conference to confirm this at 1:30 this afternoon.

Typical crap reporting - "The 28-year-old 'millionaire' "...

He makes $500K per year from football, which translates into $280K pa. Nice, but this hardly makes him a millionaire...

He's been earning $400,000 or so for a few years now. Owns a house in Sydney (near where Rodney Eade lived in the Eastern Suburbs). Less the damage caused when he backed his ute into Roos' car. I'd say he's a millionaire.

So, he's a millionaire, not a 'millionaire'.

I think I'll be out of town the week we have to decide if he needs 100 million or a 1000 million to be a billionaire. Or is that "billionaire"? Or 'billionaire'?

As long as he gets (and collects on) a big bonus every time he kicks over 100 goals a season I'll be happy.

Sanecow
14th April 2005, 12:29 PM
I am not in love with bonuses for goal kicking targets, it could easily make for a selfish player. A Goal : Behind ratio with a moderate goal target would be more team friendly. Also a bonus for not getting suspended would be not a bad idea for the Baldness.

Rizzo
14th April 2005, 02:38 PM
I doubt he's still on that bonus, if he ever was, reading Roos' comments in the SMH article.

He was willing the ball to levitate. So far he can only get it as far as his knees but watch out when he can levitate it as far as his chest. It's something every AFL player on half a mil (or 'mil") or more has to be able to do.

Yeah but look at those GUNS!

Even when looking decidedly unco-ordinated he must scare the crap out of defenders everywhere :p

As for the millionaire comment... IMO you are a millionaire the moment you can rustle up a million in cash within a couple of hours. Just because the bank lends you a mil, or your works pays you a mil if you stick around for the next x years...

And on the topic of bonuses, I would suggest a "no reports" bonus is still the most worthwhile. We cant win a premiership with Baz on the sidelines, even if he is playing ordinary.
