I don't think Roos wants to use Goodes in the ruck this year if he can avoid it - other than to mix it up during a game.
I think Goodes is much better off floating, and able to influence the game - just look at how many people the weagles tried on him during the GF!
And I think a FIT Doyle might push Jolly for no. 1 ruckman. It's a nice problem to have.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
Hopefully Doyle. Or Shaw. Or even Erikson.
Was seriously underwhelmed by the unco'ness of Chambers' performance tonight.
Donkey and Big Earl are definately in front of Chambers atm.

I asked a 'Geelong identity' about Chambers when we first signed him, thought it might be sour grapes, but I quote " a good kid but clumsy"...Originally posted by liz

Sports do not build character. They reveal it....Heywood Broun
I always turn to the sports pages first, which record people's accomplishments. The front page has nothing but man's failures......Earl Warren
I also took a look at young Chambers on Friday night. Although not tall for a ruckman (197cm) he has very long arms (which might explain his hit-out rate at Geelong) on the other hand he dropped one absolute sitter on Friday night (I don't think he took a mark despite playing a kick behind for most of the night). The best taps of the best taps of the night were delivered by Big Steve, I hope he will be working in tandem with Jolly this year.Originally posted by liz

In other rucking news, young Sam Rowe also played at North Sydney and looked ok. And I saw young Erickeo at Pennant Hills on Sunday, and he doesn't appear to have put on anywhere near enough meat. So Earl "The Mountain Man" Shaw is probably our next choice in the ruck (good thing he's on the senior list now).
Loose translation from the Latin is - I am tall, so I hit out.
Doyle will take over LRT's role as most maligned player at the swans.
LRT will do the very good and the very bad still, but after his "Norm Smith", few will be low enough to criticise him.
Doyle is my pony this year. He's a lot like Jolly. Rucks and plays FF. Him a Jolly would make a great team. C'mon Donkey, stick it up 'em.
Also, from another thread, I cant wait to see Malceski play a full season in the 1's.

It'd be like nicknaming someone "the lawn bowler".

You choose someone and I promise that the next Swans game I go to (round 2), I'll shout out "Go Lawn Bowler!!!" when he takes a nice mark.Originally posted by dread and might
