Who thinks the whole concept of banners is old hat and not the sort of good tradition that needs to be kept?
I remember the old days of H&A games at suburban grounds, the players would run down the race and through the banner. It was exciting because the race was all done up and the first thing you'd see of the players was when they burst through the banner just in front of the race.
These days the players arrive on the ground and then huddle before they go through the banner. Seems like a mere formality now and has miinimal impact.
As for the writing on the banners, I think you'd be lucky to read one every couple of rounds that's even remotely clever or entertaining. I'm sure the players don't look up and read the banner before they run through it.
Why not just drop this throwback to the past.
