It's about time they knocked down the Messenger stand. It's not even on the same angle as the others as it was built to face the sidelines for League. It's ugly and should have gone years ago.

Long overdue. I am not sure why they wouldn't knock over the O'Relly as well and have new stands running right around. Maybe that will happen one day.

THEY may not be the best seats in the house, but they will surely be the most expensive.

A plan to demolish and replace the SCG's Bradman, M.A. Noble and Dally Messenger stands to boost seating by 2725 will cost $45,000 for each additional seat.

The Sydney Cricket Ground Trust has lodged an application with the Department of Planning to undertake a $124 million redevelopment of the venue that would allow 48,000 people to attend cricket, Australian rules and rugby league matches.
I take it they'll be raising our membership's to help cover the $45K per seat.

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Because the stands are a dinosaur from an era long long ago. They are cold & ugly. And hamper the SCG capacity-wise as well.

The SCG is a disgrace & apart from Manuka & maybe Subiaco is the worst in the league. Antiquated facilities will only mean more games will end up going to Homebush, something that scares the SCG Trust senseless.

If they don't provide a facility for cricket & the Swans to regularly draw 50000, then more events will leave the precinct.

The additional corporate facilities will be paying a lot more than that.

The construction contract for Homebush limits the maximum capacity of the SCG to 48,000 seats

I just hope they keep working their way round to the Members and Ladies stands...

Until when? Is there a 10 year clause or something like that?

Have read it somewhere today, not sure where, that they'll extend the playing surface a few more metres at that end as well.
