Michael, are you aware they have new lights there as of mid last year?
Not taking sides as it may be different through the lens of a camera, but I found it easy to call the night game we did there on the first night they turned them on.

Definately different through the lens, I was there 28th June last year and they where not the best, even Bruce Purser is terrible from a photography perspective, from a spectator pov its great however there is to much light spill in certain areas and not enough in others, but if the lights have changed since July then i may be surprised.

Michael what sort of camera are you using and what sort of lens? I have been using a 40D and whilst great for daytime I struggle at night to get the speeds right so I can fully understand where you are coming from with the local venues.

No worries mate. Might see you Sat'dy if you venture anywhere near the grandstand.

I am using 2 x Canon 1DMarkIII bodies with a 400 2.8 IS on one body and a 70-200 2.8 on the other. During the day i lke to shoot at anything abov 1/1250, at these night games i am struggling getting to 1/800 @ ISO 3200, whilst not really an issue with my body i really dont want to shoot at 6400 and 1/800 the ball and limbs start to get blury if moving fast, but you work with what you got.

I usually shoot opposite it but might come all the way down this time with the grand stands as my background see if there is a little more light that end.

A few showers forecast for tomorrow, and the chance of an early shower on Saturday.
If you hear of any grounds being closed, let us know. But I think we should be OK.

Picken Oval is closed. Wests v Balmain in Premier Division & Under 18s and Wests v UTS in First Division are now at Bruce Purser.
