That's what's good about trade week; allows people to whinge either way and has some mystic about it.
This year it will be an interesting trade week because if all the trades appear out of the way now, so day one becomes a formality, then the rumours start on the rest of the week and some clubs will jag a trade out of nowhere.
There have been some ripper rumours to date. Like Dylan Addison for Hall.

All teams have to be given a level footing. Understandably there are no trade discussions going on at two clubs this week.

If you stick to the trading theories of some here on RWO, Geelong and St Kilda should already be bunkered down working out how to trade away their potential premiership heroes so that they dont lose their currency and they can immediately start rebuilding.
Trade week has been designed so that all clubs are in the one place at the one time to discuss potential trades.
It also works on the premise that if the timeline is only a week, then deals will get done quicker which will then allow for other deals to get done that might be waiting on these deals.

Having said that, there have been numerous impasses that have occurred and haven't been able to be broken in a week. I can offer no substantial evidence for it, but perhaps people think that a longer trade period would reduce such occurances as Everitt faced in 2006 and O'Keefe in 2008.It also works on the premise that if the timeline is only a week, then deals will get done quicker which will then allow for other deals to get done that might be waiting on these deals.

All clubs deserve an equal footing, and I have no doubt apart from a couple of back-office staff that everyone at the Saints and Cats are gearing for Saturday. While the AFL does seem to let players et al talk about verbal trade deals after round 22, I think the current timeline for official trading is acceptable. Verbal deals can change, and nothing is certain until it is signed off. But perhaps the trade deadline can be increased by a couple of days to see if a compromise can be reached.
