Loved it. ....horrible foot ball at times but a few excellent glimpses that the game plan is being understood.
Looved the defensive forward line pressure with The speedsters up there.
Our defence was quite sound...
Kirk gave McLean a bath
Bird's sidesteps straightening us up into the middle.
Bevan was good at his job..putting pressure on and crumbing.
Currie got better as the game went on.
Rohan has that Darrel Baldock ability to have turned whilst coming down from a marking attempt and is ready for the nextplay while the others are still landing.
McVeigh's handball on the camera side wing to ?? was unbelievable.
Tadhg did a few useful things.
McGlynn was everywhere.
Bad thing...Bolton's injury.
"The Dog days are over, The Dog days are gone" Florence and the Machine
A scrappy performance but good to win nonetheless. At least it means another TV game next week.
Jetta and Rohan the clear highlights for me. No reason why both won't play in round 1. Amazing what difference some genuine speed gives the team and both seem to have very good skills. Put some of their more experienced teammates to shame in that regard.
Tadhg doesn't look like he's missed a beat and Malceski's form looked good.
TDL needs other forwards around him to be effective so the addition of Bradshaw and White can't come soon enough. Goodes struggled a bit as a forward target probably for the same reason.
Turnovers and dodgy skills were very frustrating but I am happy to put it down to rustiness. Still with the new guys showing so much, some of the older hands have some work to do.
Currie did some nice things at the end but either didn't get much game time or was generally quiet. Really want him to have a big year because it will be great for our balance.
"As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk
Jetta was awesome, pace, skills, etc were all very good and looks certain to start Rd 1.
Rohan was also very good, clearly has the making of a good footballer, needs a few games under his belt till he makes it into our team.
TDL didn't do much but tried hard
Malceski looked like the Malceski of old. Skills were fantastic and gave plenty of run. Him, Mattner and of course Tadgh were great.
Bird showed he def deserves to be in the team. Liked to step alot, and looks abit more agile. Jack was also good.
Richards and Grundy were solid in defence. Didnt make to many mistakes which was a real positive.
Mcglynn was among the bests, and Kennedy showed alot.
Its difficult because considering we still have Meredith, Veszpremi, Hannebery also pushing for a spot, some of the young guys who desreve a game prob wont get one.
Hoping the skills pick up in the next game!
He shook Kirk's hand after the game after Kirky gave him a father of a hiding. I think it was about 5 stats for the game for Brock. Talk about making a goose of yourself.
I thought Seaby was good
Malceski got better as the game went on but has a bit work to do on the penetration of his kicks.
Jetta looks pretty handy.
Bird looked very slow and made many mistakes.
McGlynn makes good position but turns it over a bit.
Kennedy hardly sighted.
O'Dwyer was good and looks a bit more solid.
What hapened to Smith. Didn't see him in the 2nd half.
Mike Pyke, nup.
Goodes, McVeigh looked primed for good seasons.
Grundy was our best for mine all game. Looked in control across half back and is now very cool under pressure and makes few mistakes.
Jack should have a look at his mostly Low/higlights and learn from them.
Denis-Lane - pretty hard to judge given the woeful delivery.
I look forward to the next game against some better opponents.
Rusty with a capital R but it's always good to beat the Vultures and the best thing about it was that it was the newies who did it for us. Jetta and Rohan fantastic, Seaby good, McGlynn's disposal was poor but he got it a lot. We didn't beat much but we've got far more scope for improvement than them and I reckon we've got cause for cautious optimism!
(Brett Kirk showed why he's a champ, Brock McLean showed why he never will be!)
"Notwithstanding the sight of all our miseries, which press upon us and take us by the throat, we have an instinct which we cannot repress, and which lifts us up." - Pascal
Got a bit sick of watching Goodes try to take contested marks in the forward lime.
He ain't no ROK
