    When Salmon moved to the Hawks, he said a large reason for it was that he yearned to play in the ruck, having been pigeon-holed as a forward for most of his career.

    I've also heard him say that as an aging player with bad knees he didn't want to do as much running as a forward, so asked for a permenent move into the ruck.

    How times change in 15 years.

    Grab a copy of his game against Geelong in '93. He kicked 10 and Ablett kicked 14. I only vaguely remember him playing at Essendon as I was young but there's no doubt that he was an exceptional forward.
