    Building for the future?

Did anyone read this? It's an interesting blueprint for success and maybe worth a look for those who say "get rid of the hacks, play the kids".

Carlton should heed Geelong's terrible example

"A successful team needs senior players with experience and hard bodies, as well as a generation of elite talents who grow up together and take ownership of the club.

It often takes years of seemingly middling performances before the team is hardened physically and mentally enough to take the next step and become a dominant force."

" These days, the only way to grab the bragging rights is to patiently, methodically continue to build, training your young stars and adding to them judiciously with later draft picks, trades for draft picks, and expertly chosen rookies. There are no short cuts once you are in the middle of the ladder, trying to rise to the top."

    The nest paragraph says this...

"Many fans these days are prepared to accept a couple of seasons down the ladder if they can see a plan, usually involving the development of young players, that will eventually build a strong team and the hope of a dynasty."

It is clear from Roos comments today here is having trouble balancing hard experienced bodies while getting the best out of the youngsters. Hannebury and Smith have built on work done last year. Rohan and Jetta have struggled. Others have disappeared. Some given a fleeting glimpses of opportunity then shafted. It is hard to see any plan at work. If he'd blown up at the reserves earlier in the season one might see the point but with a few weeks in the season left? Smells like excuses.

The Cats were down & out & the members were asking for Bomber's resignation but a year later & they were in the 8. Carlton are unfortunate as they had so many high draft picks & so much was expected. They would have to be the most under performing side of the lot but St Kilda had that title for a long time. I still think the Saints are overrated & getting to the end of their time. Our problem is we don't have the high draft picks naturally we have to swap for them unlike Geelong, Saints, Dons, Tigers, Demons, Lions (of Matthews era) & pies (2 years bottoming out, smart bastard Malthouse).
