    Have you Hird the news?

Jimmy's going to be the next coach of the Bombres.

Will Bomber Thompson, Choco Williams or Junkyard Dog Laidley be his right-hand man?

Bomber Thompson to be director of coaching!

This will leave Geelong in the lurch, with both coach and their best player leaving

They're hoping to get him - but nothing certain about that yet...at least from what I've heard/read.

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

They stated on 702 ABC radio's 3pm news that Thompson was expected to announce his resignation today. Add that to Ablett's imminent departure and I reckon you can safely say that the Cat's current golden era is officially over.

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Unfortunately yes. I said at the time it would end in tears and I suspect Essendon committee had similar thoughts, hence the move to prop Hird up with experience like Thompson's or Williams'. Being a coach seems now to involve so much more than simply direct contact with the players - and heaven knows that can be complicated enough.

Bomber not expected to join Hird, but is expected to officially resign by the weekend. Seems that he is over it.
