He has those hard qualities, but he's not really a midfielder.

It means that they will probably spend less time on the bench but unless Pyke is substantially worse in the ruck than Mumford, why wouldn't you split them more evenly and give them both time up forward, down back or anywhere else they can add value. With White as a pinch hit ruckman it obviously made sense to use him very sparingly (because he's not very good at it). But that doesn't really apply to Pyke. As much as anything, I am looking forward to seeing how the combination gives them the chance to use Mumford more in the forward line and whether he can be consistently dangerous down there.
Agree on that point, logic says that if we are going to play Pyke as a second ruckman then he should be spending more time on the ball than the bench so that we can use Mumford up forward more.

However, Mumford is actually doing very well at present as a fourth midfielder with his follow up work at ground level and chasing and to a certain extent is covering up some of the issues with our midfiled.

Therefore, we are having to use Mummy for greater periods on the ball.

It then comes down to match-ups as to whether Pyke spends alot of time up forward or on the pine.

Dream position would be for us is to have the midfield pick up the slack left by Jack, so that we could use Pyke more as a pure tap ruckman and send Mummy forward for longer periods.

They must really like Johnson, especially considering the dogs forward set up is without the Bazza and is subsequently a little shorter than usual. Im happy there sticking with him tho, they must hold high hopes for him. Perhaps he or Grundy ( as suggested on here by a few) will be going forward ? I remember reading the AJ wasn't a defender in Juniors.

    Everitt out, Johnston in
Maybe they are expecting him to lift against his old side...let's hope he does.

Obviously they have a lot of faith in Alex Johnson, I thought the hammy injury might have been a convenient way to ease him out of the side after 2 games but obviously not. Straight back in after 2 weeks out (including the bye).

Also a bit surprised in Meredith's name on the emergencies, would have thought Sumner after his game last week deserves to be there. Possibly they are making Meredith the sacrificial emergency as a precaution to the senior game.

Has AJ played two or one games in the magoos since the injury? How was he?
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

LOL. Apparently he was on the verge of selection a week ago and then proceeded to break his hand.

I must admit I'm a little surprised by them bringing a third gamer in straight back from an injury lay-off. Nothing against Alex but I kinda wish they'd included an extra 't' in the team list. I think he deserves it, and he and Alex are capable of playing pretty similar roles.

Agreed. I would have been stoked if that happened. But yeah, up against his old team. If he fails to fire and they continue to leave Jesse out then to see LJ would be great.

I thought that was the case, but was hoping I was confused.

I like the kid, and thought he wasn't awful etc., but I certainly didn't sit back and think "wow, definite first 22 guy".
