    Post TLM Count - Finals

Elimination Final v St Kilda, Etihad.

    Sydney12.1082St Kilda8.957

Best: O'Keefe, Goodes, McVeigh, Mumford, Richards, Kennedy, Shaw

Etihad has never been a happy hunting ground against the Saints and after failing to secure a home final, the Swans were the outsiders to win. Scoring was tough in in the first quarter with only 3 goals kicked. 2 to the Swans. Ted was having an outstanding game marking Saints skipper Reiwoldt. O'Keefe score 3 goals for the 2nd quarter to help extend the swans lead, including a goal from just outside 50 after an Interchange infringement moments before halftime. The Saints clearly looked rattled, making uncustomary mistakes. But they were not done yet, After an early goal to Spangher, they kept the Swans goalless for the rest of the quarter, but could only manage 4 goals to reduce the margin to 8 points at the final break. The Saints had run out of steam and the Swans went for the kill kicking the first 4 goals of the quarter. Mumford took the mark of the night in a huge pack player and kicked truly. The Swans first Melbourne Final win since the 2005 Grand Final.

Swans by 25. 4 goals to O'Keefe. 26 Disposals to McVeigh.

    Semi Final v Hawthorn, MCG

    Sydney13.886Hawthorn19.8122

Best: Kennedy, Mumford, Goodes, McVeigh, Shaw, Bolton

Would Buddy play or not? Yes. Would his knee hold up? He looked proppy at the start.
First scoring shot to the Swans, a point, but that was as good as it would get for the first quarter. The Hawks then had the next 8, but only managed 3.5, so the damage was not too bad. Some errrant kicking when not under pressure didn't help, but the Hawks were switched on, and their attack on the ball was lethal. The second quarter showed the swans had a bit oif spark, but the Hawks had all the answers, and extended their lead to 40 points. Buddy's knee seemed to be improving as the game went on. Although he'd only kicked one major at this stage. The Hawks further extended their lead, until a blitz from the swans saw them reduce the deficit to only 3 goals. Kennedy was inspirational in the centre, as was Mumford. Unfortunately, the Swans appeared to have spent their all in the 3rd term, and they managed to hang on to the 3 goal Margin until Franklin scored his 3rd and 4th goals. 4 goals in 5 minutes and the game was all but over. A gallant effort, but now the season was over.

Hawks by 36. 3 goals to Goodes and O'Keefe. 35 Disposals to Kennedy, including a Finals record 16 Clearances, and 25 contested possessions. Josh Gibson's fist had 21 touches. Mumford had 48 hitouts against Hale(28) and Bailey(25)

    13-10-1.

Yes, congratulations to Adam, well done. I'll include it on the other thread.
But congratulations and thank you also to Scott for running this exercise and seeing it through to its conclusion. Great effort and I'm sure all the punters appreciate it.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
