SCG Redevelopment Stage 2: Noble, Bradman, Messenger

The Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust announced this morning that Stage 2 of the SCG Redevelopment will begin in March this year and proceed through 2013. This involves a new stand ("pavilion") to replace the MA Noble, Bradman and Dally Messenger Stands.

Andrew Ireland has stated that the Club is already in discussion with the Trust about the impact.

I'm obviously excited about a new stand. We sit in the Messenger Stand and love the position, but don't like the through wind in winter! But I'm a little anxious as to where they are going to seat us in the meantime. We know at the moment that we have space around us where we can bring visitors (which is a definite possibility for 2012) but may not if we are relocated. Also, what will our viewing angle be like? I'd love to get somewhere similar at the end of the redevelopment.

Also, the Stands being replaced are a mix of Members' Reserve (with the dress code that goes with it) and allocated seating. How will that work out in the new stand?

I would imagine people affected will be moved to the Trumper Stand.

I just received an email from the club about it, so I'd imagine most RWOers will too. The club is supportive and is in discussions with the Trust about what it will mean for members. Considering we're their major tenant you'd hope that would be the case of course. I'd also hope we might have some influence over the naming of at least one of the grandstands.

If there's one thing I hate, it's small minded sports administrators.

"It's not about extra seats. If I had my way, it would be a smaller capacity," chairman Rodney Cavalier told ABC Radio on Tuesday.

"The future of spectator sport is not in capacity but comfort for those who come.

"That's the trend across the world, especially in North America."
    Surely you can have both!

I don't think the statement sounded as if the Swans had been notified long ago. There's more to this story.

I imagine it's the difference between statement of intent and the detail - you know, where the devil is.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Scg Trust: "Hi Andrew, ready for the upcoming season?"
Andrew Ireland: "yep, we sure are"
Scg Trust: "That's great to hear"
Scg Trust: "oh yeah before I forget the NA Noble and Bradman Stands won't be there. Hope that's okay?

I do hope that the demolition dust doesn't waft over our canapes in the Brewongle. Champers and dust is just so GWS.

Great timing for Primmy and Wardy with your move to our wonderful stand.

The redevelopment has been in planning for some time as I was talking to an SCG official after the player presentation (in the indoor cricket nets) aftermatch last year. They were saying that it was likely to start happening after the completion of the cricket season. They did say that they would move people across to the Trumper stand for the football.

I think the last thing the Swans wanted to do was to bring stress to their supporters over Christmas and New Year and thus the announcement today by the trust.
