The old Showgrounds at Moore Park, now Fox Studios, used to host finals many years ago.

The Showgrounds at Homebush, now being redeveloped into Skoda Stadium, has hosted a few games. Was an interesting layout, with the dirt track around the sideline.
The bike track around the outside would have also been a feature at Hurstville Oval, but it would have been very small inside the bike track.

I'm happy that Waverley Oval will again be having games this year. It was a construction site when I did a match report from there last year, but that's a ground that I've often passed and thought it had great potential as a footy venue.
I was ruled ineligible for the Brownlow Medal on a technicality. The technicality being that I didn't play.

I don't remember the NCC Hunters playing at Tacoma. I was under the impression they split their home games between Number 1 in Newcastle and the Mount Penang Parklands at Kariong??

Interesting to note in the hard copy version of the Newcastle Herald yesterday that the BDAFL are looking at entering an u23 development team in Premier Division next year, and are playing a number of trial games against Premier Div opposition in the coming weeks starting with the Dockers on March 17

Not sure that a Newcastle rep side concept will ever work due to the extent it weakens the local clubs and the travel issues. Gosford is "just" close enough but I don't think that enough players will be keen for a 4-8 hour round trip every second week to play footy when they don't get paid

I played 18s from 95-99 and played the Hunters a few times, our 1st game for the Western Jets was played at Adelaide St Oval, Killarney Vale's ground. Trounced. Played them later that year in torrential rain at Newcastle No 1, trounced.

I reckon the concept could get legs if the right approach was adopted, travel is a massive issue though. Split it evenly between those two grounds, they are the nicest surfaces in the BD. As MP said, Gosford is line ball (No different than Richmond-Cronulla or Manly for us) but for them to be travelling from Newy every 2nd week, and to the Gong once a year.....that many bus trips would turn them into drunks.

Yeah, that was an obscure one. They only played there once or twice. Presumably because of the unavailability of the other grounds.

From memory it is a ground the size of a postage stamp. Although my memory could be failing me.............

Ulan Oval (Holsworthy played there. - Now Industrial estate, was next to M5)
Moorebank Engineers had AFL ground near RAE golf course. SWS / Liverpool used also.
Also cant remember name of ground where Holworthy Rail car park is next to now with new housing estate on it. 3RAR used to play 5/7 there and SWS played many a trial game there also. (Holsworthy Parade grounds?? there was an AFL and Rugby ground next to each other.
There was also another AFL ground in the barracks area called melbourne or adelaide field or something that Liverpool/SWS had used over the years.
These grounds were used to avoid wet wether closure here and there over the years and for trial when they couldnt get onto Rosedale.

I assume your refering to the SME ground where we trialed as SWS around 99.

The one near the station which is now a housing estate was called Kokoda - remember playing Camden there in a trial in bloody hot weather when I think Chook was coaching (i think). We also played manly in a trial on a ground in Green Valley near the Catholic Club but cant remember the name of it.

By the way Kokoda is back in existance but directly opposite the old one on the other side of heathcote road. We have used it as a training venue and Auskick had also used it to attempt a new club. It was supposed to be holsworthy ground rather than greenway however it has been problematic getting amenites etc. Unfortunately it has a concrete fake grass wicket on it so it will never be a viable option. Mind you there is a new venue at Casula that should be finshed this year - god knows who is going to play there as it is a junior oval (grass wicket I believe thought).
