To quote that renowned tool who has one less flag than Mike Pyke (oh I love that fact), Brian Taylor: "Wowee."

But good on Goodes for recognising there's a time to build the next generation of leaders.

And what a great story for Keiran.

Captain Jack. I approve. He spoke well, hardly an umm, and not one by my reckoning "so its good" amongst it all. A captain with a wicked sense of humour. Why not!

    New world order.

No wonder Adam is such a great player and person. He understands timing and decision making. Way to go Goodsey!

I'm predicting a McVeigh for Hannebery swap in a few years.

I am just a little saddened by this as it says to me that Goodes sees the end in sight. I'd like to believe he can go for many more years yet. To me, he is still the most commanding figure in the team onfield and he is a statesman of the competition. Which still makes him the most obvious choice as captain.

Countering this, I realise there are a lot of demands on a captain's time, and if he merely wishes to free up some time to pursue other activities, that's fine. I just hope he hasn't stepped down because he thinks it is the done thing to do because other captains at a certain age (Judd, Newman) have also chosen to stand down.

I doubt that. Maybe he just feels that a captain needs to give "their all" and his all is just a little less than it was, post-injury. Or perhaps it's just the right time for Jack to start the ascension to team leader; I think we can all see him as sole captain one day, if they choose to return to that arrangement.

Good on them both. March 30 can't come soon enough!
