    TLM Countdown - Rnds 11-13, 2013

These rounds were brought to you by chammond

Round 11: Swans humiliate the Crows

Sydney walloped Adelaide by 77 points at AAMI stadium in front of 38,000 shocked fans. Daniel Hannebery had the ball on a string, racking up 42 possessions, as the Swans? pressure football ground down the Crows to their worst loss in nearly twenty years.

In the second and third quarters, the Swans kicked 13 goals to two to completely demoralise the Crows, who had gone into the game expecting to topple the reigning premiers. Sydney laid 85 tackles during the game, and the pressure was relentless.

Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson summed it up: ?Our players mentioned that even when they were 90 points up in the fourth quarter, they were still saying they wanted to get the next one. Incredible culture that they've got.?

Jesse White took another step up, with 7 marks and three goals, including a goal-of-the-week contender in the third quarter. Tom Mitchell, Ryan O?Keefe and Kieran Jack were outstanding, sharing 91 possessions and 34 tackles between them. The only downside was a fractured cheekbone suffered by Shane Mumford, which allowed Kieran Jack?s brother Brandon to debut.

Amazingly for such a one-sided game, the stats were almost even: disposals 410 each, and clearances 33:32. What the numbers don?t show is that Adelaide?s possession almost invariably led to turnovers as Sydney tackled and harried in waves, and then moved the ball quickly with sharp hand-balls and precise kicking. This was the Swans playing at their absolute best.

GOALS: Morton 3, McGlynn 3, White 3, Bird 2, Bolton 2, Hannebery, Parker, K. Jack, Everitt, Mitchell, Goodes

    Brownlow votes: 3 Hannebery, 2 K.Jack, 1 O'Keefe
Bob Skilton Medal: Dan Hannebery 49, Jarrad McVeigh 41, Ryan O?Keefe 41, Kieren Jack 40

Round 13: Over Powered at gloomy AAMI park

In wet and windy conditions, Port Adelaide kicked five goals to two in the last term to overpower a bedraggled Sydney by 18 points in front of 16,000 fans at a sodden AAMI stadium.

In the Swans previous visit to AAMI, their form was sparkling as they smashed the Crows. In stark contrast, they looked slow and uninspired against the Power, particularly in the forward 50. Sydney had 43 inside 50s for the match, yet incredibly only managed 3 marks in the front third. Between them, the two teams laid 198 tackles, a fair indicator of how tough this contest was.

In his Swans debut, Kurt Tippett took a mark after just 11 seconds and then converted, finishing with two goals.

Josh Kennedy, Jarrad McVeigh, Ryan O'Keefe, Kieran Jack and Nick Malceski all worked hard, but overall Sydney just couldn?t cope with the Power?s four-quarter pressure in the atrocious conditions.

An air of gloom seemed to settle over the Swans when they lost Adam Goodes, who was substituted at three-quarter time with an injured right knee. The lead changed five times in the final quarter before Port finally slogged their way to victory.

GOALS: Goodes, Jack, Tippett 2, Mitchell, Morton

    Brownlow votes: 2 Kennedy
Bob Skilton Medal: Kieren Jack 29, Josh Kennedy 24, Craig Bird 20

    TLM Votes
