[QUOTE=Meg;634389]I feel a bit like you Jono but I think Sheedy is the one who drives that. He put the stick in the cage again in today's media by saying that our 2012 premiership came via "a gift of the gods" and in effect that Malceski's two goals were a fluke. Mind you he does tip us to win the flag this year.

Sheedy may have a bit of a thing about South Melbourne/Sydney. A number of years ago, he said something in the press about some Brownlow Medal winners not deserving the award. When a journo asked him to name names, he came up with Graham Teasdale, South's winner of the 1977 medal. No-one who saw VFL footy in 1977 would dispute that Teasdale CLEARLY was the best player of that year.

GWS continue to background reporters with their version of why they didn't get Franklin.

"There is no doubt they would have liked Franklin to be a Giant not a Swan when the team?s meet on Saturday afternoon. But the subterfuge and double-dealing might yet prove the making of the ??Battle of the Bridge??. The spark that ignites a genuine rivalry."

How many more years do you think the AFL will make us play GWS at their home ground in round 1?

I have to be honest, I think it was a pretty good sledge as far as sledges go. Benny's hit on Scully was worse.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I find the Battle of the Bridge increasingly irksome. This comes from a bunch of slackers who are supposed to represent people who live 20 and 30 kilometres further west while themselves living at Breakfast Point and environs. The mayor of Blacktown has a right to feel dudded. Rather than genuinely doing the hard yards involved in colonising the real west of Sydney they are parasites on the earlier pioneering work and hardships of the Swans. If this local derby deserves a name it should be simply the Sydney Derby and leave it at that.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Maybe the game should be retitled: The Battle of Breakfast Point

Our Mummy rapidly becoming GWS Mummy. Good luck to him. And I suspect the ambassador role gives them a reason to pay him additional money outside the cap. So he can afford the petrol to drive to training from Bondi!
