NEAFL 2014 Round 12
Sydney University v Sydney Swans Reserves
Saturday 14th June 2014
Blacktown International Sports Park #1 Oval 1.45pm
Note: The new time and venue
Drummoyne Oval has been declared unfit to host this match, probably due to the wet weather in the past few days so the match will be played at Blacktown, straight after the also-rescheduled NSW/ACT Rams v Calder Cannon TAC Cup game. Unforunately the new time results in this match being played concurrently with the seniors, so ressies watchers will have to miss out this week.
No word yet whether a stream and replay will be available on YouTube.
The Students recruited well during the off-season adding ex-AFL players Matt O'Dwyer, Will Sierakowski and Ryan Brabazon to their list and the results have flowed on from the new signings' strong performances with Uni tied with Ainslie as the highest ranking NSW/ACT non-AFL reserves side on the NEAFL ladder at the moment and just out of a finals spot on percentage.
The Swans battled through a poor performance to record a hard-fought win over a gallant Suns outfit last week and coach Crouch will be keen for his charges to lift their output this week.

Team List
Listed players
# | Name | Games | Goals | Votes | Notes |

1 | Tim MEMBREY | 8 | 32 | 31 | (seniors emergency)First time named as an emergency IIRC after another BOG performance. |
5 | Ryan O'KEEFE | 5 | 3 | 4 | Leading the NEAFL in tackles with a whopping 9.2 per game. |
10 | Zak JONES | 8 | 0 | 9 | (seniors emergency)Rotating between defence and midfield. |
13 | Toby NANKERVIS | 8 | 15 | 12 | Getting game time in the ruck for Pyke was a priority last week so Nanka spent more time up forward |
16 | Gary ROHAN | 6 | 1 | 0 | (senior emergency)Playing in defence but kicked a nice goal in the forward line last week. |
17 | Tommy WALSH | 4 | 1 | 0 | Shifted to the backline with a glut of tall marking options in the current side. |
18 | Jordan LOCKYER | 9 | 1 | 6 | In career best form with another 32 touches to follow his previous high of 29 the week before. |
27 | Daniel ROBINSON | 9 | 9 | 19 | Playing more as an outside runner recently to expand his repertoire, could move back inside with Mitchell and Brandon Jack out |
28 | Matthew DICK | 7 | 3 | 14 | Missed the last 2 weeks with a hammy injury. |
29 | George HEWETT | 8 | 7 | 2 | Displaying an eye for goal with his new role across half forward |
35 | Sam NAISMITH | 5 | 5 | 3 | As with Naismith, starved for time in the ruck and also didn't impact the scoreboard. |
38 | Mike PYKE | 1 | 1 | 0 | (named in the seniors too)Where he plays will probably depend on whether it rains on Saturday. |
41 | Lloyd PERRIS | 9 | 7 | 5 | Quieter game against the Suns after playing well against the Thunder |
45 | Patrick MITCHELL | 9 | 3 | 0 | Only 4 handballs and 1 free against last week. |
46 | Shane BIGGS | 9 | 0 | 7 | Another high possession count last week with 28, but more impressive was his tackle tally of 9. |
Changes
In: Dick
Out: Aliir ALIIR (???), Brandon JACK (seniors promotion), Harrison MARSH (???), Tom MITCHELL (ankle)
As noted, Pyke being named in the side suggests there is uncertainty about the make up of the senior lineup. In any case, we will have to subtract at least 2 listed players out of Jones, Rohan, Membrey and Pyke from this list. One who will actually play in the seniors, and one as the standby emergency as the reserves and seniors games are both being played at the same time.
Marsh and Aliir are the unexplained outs but an eyewitness at the Suns game last week said the Swans finished with nofit players on the bench. With BJ being rested after the third quarter as the seniors emergency, and Tom Mitchell confirmed taken off with an ankley injury, Marsh and Aliir must have been the other 2 injured. They only had 9 and 8 disposals respectively against the Suns so this would seem to corroborate my theory.
With Richards still out this week, the return of Dick is a welcome one. He and Walsh, along with possibly Lockyer should hold down the key defensive posts.

Out: Simon McGRILLEN, Daniel PREEN, Vahid ROSER,
Many possible debutants in this list as the usual suspects would be playing for the Rams in the preceding game. However the Swans can call upon the likes of Campbell and Bottin-Noonan who are named as emergencies for the Rams.

Ressies diehards will recognise a few names. Besides the listed ex-Swans MOD and Braba, there's a bunch of ex-Swans scholarship/Academy players in Bottin-Noonan (whose could come up against his brother who is one of our toppies!), Sertbas and Mitch Thompson. Losing their top possession winner Rawlinson (27.9 per game) is a big blow, but his omission is offset by the return of Brabazon.
NEAFL representatives Jacob Derickx (any relation to Tom?) and Tim Barton round out a strong looking squad.
