Round 14: Ainslie Tricolours v Sydney Swans Reserves

    NEAFL 2014 Round 14

Ainslie Tricolours v Sydney Swans Reserves

    Sunday 6th July 2014
    12.00pm
    North Dalton Park, Wollongong

Ainslie are the best performing non-AFL reserves Eastern Conference team this year, but their inability to defeat a Northern Conference team has them in a tight struggle for a Top 6 spot.

After last week's defeat to the Giants, the Swans are barely hanging on to the top spot thanks to a miniscule difference in their percentage and will not want to lose two in a row to give up their advantageous position of a Top 2 finish.

1Tim MEMBREY113633Only played the first half last week before being withdrawn as emergency.
5Ryan O'KEEFE734Leading tackler in the NEAFL had another 12 against UWS.
6Tom MITCHELL6612A little rusty in his comeback game, now will aim to push for a senior recall.
13Toby NANKERVIS1021164 contested marks in a beaten side was a mighty effort.
16Gary ROHAN710(seniors emergency)Came off just before half time after heavy collison with Lachie Plowman.
17Tommy WALSH610Has covered well at full back in Xavier Richards and Allir Allir's injury absences.
18Jordan LOCKYER1117Averaging 29.4 disposals in the past 5 NEAFL games
19Tom DERICKX000(seniors emergency)Swans reserves debut if he plays
22Dean TOWERS888A very quiet comeback game with only 7 disposals
27Daniel ROBINSON11919Keeps on keeping on with quality numbers week in week out.
28Matthew DICK9417Like Lockyer, getting more freedom up the ground
29George HEWETT1072(seniors emergency)A reward for consistent performances in the reserves with 8 of his 10 games tallying 20 or more disposals
30Lewis ROBERTS-THOMSON336BOG last week with his defensive duties on Tom Boyd.
    31Harrison MARSH976(reserves emergency)Test on his hamstring injury.
35Sam NAISMITH853The primary ruckman last week.
    42Xavier RICHARDS802(reserves emergency)Test on his hip injury.
45Patrick MITCHELL1130Finally received some time in the ruck against UWS
    46Shane BIGGS11015After a little mid-season lull, back in top form with team-high 30 disposals and 10 rebound 50s.

    Changes
    In: Derickx, Marsh, Richards
    Out: Aliir ALIIR (shoulder)

Hewett has flown over to Perth as detailed on the Swans website while earlier in the week Horse said that Derickx would be flying over too. Since both the seniors and reserves are playing on Sunday it is very unlikely that Hewett and Derickx would fly back for the reserves game (not to mention a drive down to Wollongong). Unsure about whether Rohan flew over too. I would think he would need the game time in the middle.

Out: Sean ELLIS, Jeremy HIRST, Nick PAINE, Mitch WARD (all injured)

Losing Paine and Ellis are significant outs for Ainslie as they are the Tricolours' 2nd and 3rd leading goalkicker respectively this season. Former Port Adelaide player Nick Salter is their leading goalkicker with 30 and looms as the danger man to watch for the Reserves defence. Young gun Aaron Vandenberg equals our own Daniel Robinson as the leader in the NEAFL disposal count and must be closely watched whilst Mitch Mulroney is the clearly the competition's leading hitout winner (averaging 38 a game) and will provide stiff competition for our own ruck division.

Thanks Ugg, comprehensive and insightful as ever, appreciate your work.

Reading about Lockyer, do you think he may survive this years delistings? I remember his preseason game/s in his first year where he looked to be a smart footballer then got lost in the wilderness for 2 years.

Updated team list doesn't have any of the 3 emergencies in there, so they must all be in Perth. No Richards or Marsh either.

People need to bear in mind that we only had 13 or so listed players available (if all senior emergencies made the trip west). That's the level at which the team tends to come down to the level of the Canberra sides. This exacerbated by the relative inexperience of most of the top ups listed, and an imbalance in the listed Swans that were available - ie very little of our gun reserves midfield would have played - ROK, Mitchell, Robinson would be about it. The available listed players instead included three ruck types (if you can count P Mitchell as a ruck type).

You have ROK a Norm Smith Medalist and Mitchell who is highly rated. They should be able to carry the reserves team. If you have your two best players on the ball you should dominate.

The Reserves must be looking at when they can get Heeney and Mills back in the team.
