And speaking of McGuire, since another thread mentioned the sons of John Longmire, I was searching for info about them and found this article:
Category: | Herald Sun
Which contains this bit of classic McGuire bluster.
McGuire renewed his attack after learning of the boys academy enrolment.
All Ill say is, its going to destroy the game, its as simple as that, Eddie McGuire said on Triple M.
I dont care if its Sydney or Brisbane or anyone else, tomorrow theyll all kick into me as usual and Ill have the silent colleagues in Melbourne who are about to cop it right in the ear. Forget that theyre going to get all the father-sons if they live in Sydney. They have got the equivalent, and this is understating it, of 600 father-sons but Ill give you the kicker: 600 father-sons who can play. So its not like its just the luck of the biological lottery that you get a kid like Darcy Moore who can play. You can go through at age 12 and get the best 600 a year, not once, per year and you can train them and feed them and school them.
Which sort of sounds like he may have a point, until you think about it for more than five seconds.
Obviously somebody called Glenn did think about it for more than five seconds, so he posted this lovely refutation in the Comments section.
"Your argument already appears thin, as if there are 600 possible Father Sons as a result of the Sydney Academy, even taking into account that the clubs (including the Swans) usually have no more than 5 or 6 picks in the draft & possibly up to 4 picks in the rookie draft, then that would leave around 590 potential kids to be picked up by other clubs other than Sydney. that would mean that Collingwood could take Sydney kids too... Like another Jarrod Witts.
Who would have thought that the AFL could get participation from the Northern States like that. Just goes to show that the mouth from Broadmeadows, speaks without thinking, has no inclination to understand that the game is bigger than Collingwood or Victoria or that anyone is interested in the rhetoric that he sprouts.
Eddie, it is time to step down & let someone with some real intelligence take over both on the radio & as Collingwood President. You are almost starting to remind us of Tony Abbott."
The father son system is inherently unfair anyway. How many do gold coast and gws have access to? I'd like to see a chart of father son selections by club.
If Eddie put in as much time worrying about the colliwobbles as he does worrying about us, the wobbles wouldn't wobble so much.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.
Even if we developed 6 draftable champions each year, it only takes for 6 clubs to elect to draft them with a first round pick & wed only be able to amass enough points to draft one of them.
I think it's just wonderful that a man who has made an art form of spreading misinformation and falsehoods to further his own selfish interests has been the victim of someone spreading misinformation and falsehoods to further their own selfish interests.(Well, that's according to the Toorak Trillionaire himself, but maybe it's just another of his falsehoods).
My opinion is objective truth in its purest form
I've just been chatting with someone, who had around twenty years experience as a casino croupier and dealer. Her worst customer in that time? You guessed it: Eddie McGuire. Apparently, one night when the Broadmeadows Battler lost $80,000 was the lowlight of her career.
