Game Day - R18 vs Hawks

Cloudy here in Melbourne but it's meant to rain at lunchtime and clear in the evening.

Last night, there was a movie on called "The Two Towers" that I presumed was a documentary about the Swans recruiting department but rather it was about Ben McGlynn and, I think, Paul Williams, trying to find a way into Collingwood, the source of all evil, though it was renamed Mordor. I couldn't work out if Aragorn was meant to be Longmire or Pridham.

Let's hope we are as happy tonight as we were after the Cats game - with a similar score imbalance.

A few weeks ago I was secretly hoping for a Geelong-style demolition. I think the Hawks' form has been very poor over the last couple of months and they and Geelong have been very lucky to scrape by without some more losses.

All that said, Hawthorn have some pretty handy inclusions and with us missing Shaw, Hannebry and Tippett underdone it's going to be a tough contest.

Coin flip with less than two goals in it.

    Any late outs for us?

seems to be a betting plunge on the Hawks in the last 24 hours.

Swannies by 1 or more will do me. I think the media have overrated their recent form, but we will need to be at near our best to beat them.

if we play at our beat I would think we might win by 4 or 5 goals.

A great dress rehersal for september - come on you bloods!!!

Reading this takes me back to walking to the MCG for the 2012 GF.

I was with my, Hawthorn supporting, brother in law and his family...

He made virtually the exact statement you've made, about his Hawks.

I bit my tongue and said nothing. But was thinking to myself, that's if we let your mob play to their best....Which, of course, we didn't....100+ tackles later.

It might only be 2 years ago, but a lot has changed since then. I was confident before the cats game and im almost as confident for tonight. It wont be easy but if we play near our best, I still think we will win. The 2014 swans are a more rounded squad than 2012, and I dont think that the hawks of 2014 are better than 2012.

I take reassurance from Kieren's comment that the boys have a new level of self belief in what they are capable of doing. They will need to draw on those resources against the Hawks, who despite injuries remain a strong and very cohesive outfit.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
