Biggs elevation to the senior list is only for this year as a long term injury replacement for Aliir, likewise naismith for Derickx. It does not guarantee them a place for next year. Interesting that our three emergencies tomorrow are all 2013 draftees while the 2012 draftees, Membrey, Marsh and Dick and 2011 draftee Lockyer are all in the two's. We have five second and third year rookies on our list and at least four of them must be upgraded or let go at the end of the year unless the AFL changes the rules again. I would see Biggs, Lloyd, Naismith and X Richards all deserving of elevation at the end of the year which would leave Robinson as a third year rookie. Upgrading four means that we need to clear a minimum of six positions on our senior list and more likely eight given we like to do some trading. There will be some retirements LRT already and ROK and maybe Shaw and we could see one or two leave for greener pastures (maybe Malceski and Walsh back to ireland) but if I was Lockyer, Dick or Marsh I would be pulling out all stops to show that I am still worth a place on the swans list.

Biggs current upgrade is only temporary. I assume it will be permanent

Can't see more than one of Lockyer, Dick or Harry being on the list next year. If I could choose which one to keep it would be Harry, but with a view to being a tall half-back flanker rather than as an onballer.

I would probably encourage Robinson to seek opportunities elsewhere. He's a good player and might be AFL standard. He won't get a chance to find out at the Swans.

Benny definitely rested. horse isn't going to say so on the team selection video.
Shaw maybe a bit more of a query.

Would prefer to see Hewett/Jones or Marsh before Towers again.
Biggs is getting one last crack to secure a spot for 2015 (or he is just a September specialist)

I think the rules have changed so there's more flexibility in how clubs allocate spots between rookie and senior lists. Think we went into this year width 38 senior but can go to 40 by having less rookies.

Liz would wait until after the trade period. We will have at least one surprise. Maybe two

You can find something in not picking Membrey as an emergency if you like but I wouldn't. I think the coaches just want him to get as much game time as possible in the Twos. He played very well in his first game. Lockyer, Dick & Marsh are gone I think. I think Liz is right about Robbo, more's the pity, he is a good young player with a big kick on him. Mal might decide to go in search of a nest egg to retire on.

Shaw, LRT & ROK will probably call it quits and I wouldn't be surprised to see Rhyce as an assistant coach somewhere next season, probably with the Swannies. We may be losing Stewie Dew to Melbourne as he prepares to take over from Roos. Melbourne players had better not think he is compromising because he ain't, it's either his way or the highway.

I think Biggs will be upgraded as they have been grooming him for Mal's place anyway. Richards & Naismith were Rookie Drafted in 2013 not 2012 and can both be 3 year rookies if needed. Same with Lloydy but I am sure he will be elevated.

We may have up to six places on the list, maybe seven if Mal leaves. Biggs & Lloyd will be upgraded & maybe Naismith & Xav Richards. But I think Robbo would be better off searching for greener pastures. He is a waste in our seconds and he will spend all his time there because we have too many mids ahead of him and with Heeney and maybe Hiscox coming in he will be even further back.

Anyway this is the changes thread. Biggs & Towers will be keen to have good games this week. Biggsy is becoming the end of year specialist and if Rhyce's ankle doesn't come up may find himself in the mix for September. I reckon they are resting Benny so his body can heal from all the bruises he gets throwing himself into the packs like a madman. Shaw's ankle has been bothering him ever since it happened and I was surprised he didn't get rested to take care of it the game after.

I look forward to seeing Biggsy play on Sneiderman.

It would be a shame if Robbo didn't get a crack. I rated him and Lloyd on a level par when they were playing together. And we know Lloyd has got what it takes. He may need to go to another club to get a shot.

I agree. Don't see any upside in playing Towers again. Lets see what young Hewett has got. He has been playing well in reserves lately.

I'm not saying you're wrong about Lockyer, but if his name was Mitchell and he got 31 possies, 7 marks, 5 tackles, 5 clearances and 8 inside 50s we would be screaming for him to get a call up to the seniors. If he played in the reserves for another club they would say he was pushing hard for selection. But with us, he's ripe for delisting. What gives?

I think it does make sense to play Towers. He's 24 and playing his best footy since joining the club. I think we want to see if he has enough potential to keep around or try to get something for him in a trade, and this will help showcase him a bit.

I felt the same about Robbo. It says something about the depth of our midfield when a player of his potential is so far down the pecking order.

I figure we have 8 players not in the current side, including probable draftees, that will be vying for spots in an already full midfield: Mitchell, Jones, Hewett, Heeney, Mills, Dunkley, Perris, Robinson. Despite playing well enough to be given a shot at senior footy, Robbo may be at the end of the queue at the Swans. We've got the vultures circling when we have one injured player (Mitchell) struggling to get a game; what will the pundits say when we've go 8 running around tin the reserves racking up 30+ possies?
