Extremely high pressure game in clinches. Giants a bit classier in space in first half but Swans fought back in third quarter and trail by just 3 points at final change. Even performance, apart from Mitchell who must have leather poisoning. Three first half goals to Naismith.

    Great game. Great finish.

For all the hype around Heeney , mills et al, would be a travesty if young Hiscix doesn't also find his way onto a list next year. Hopefully ours. He's seriously quick, isn't scared to use his pace to take the game on, still slight but tough enough and has sone skill too.

Interesting post game tidbit. The reserve players formed a bit of a guard of honour for ROK as he left the ground. Wasn't terribly formal but very notable ...

I'm sure ROK will get a good send off if he does decide to pull the plug.
There's a great photo on the Swans fans FB page of a pensive ROK on the edge of the 3/4 time huddle.

Liz i agree i have been watching Hiscox closely and he is has certainly been a developing player and could play a little bit of a wing flank attacking role......there are many head of him in over all skill but he has a lot of upside with a few more years of coaching and as a nice compliment to our inside players

ROK on ABC before the game saying he hadn't made up his mind but was still determined to find a spot - Joey may have just opened it !

Did Mitchell play a full game this week? Thinking he is the most obvious replacement for Kennedy if he's ready for a full game at seniors level.

agree Parker, McGlynn, Jack, Bird, Mitchell etc inside next week !

ROK should only be picked if the snr players agree is the right thing for the team and ROK but i cant see ROK playing against Richmond in the last round unless he is the sub ??

He did. And he was darned good too. The Swans' best IMO.

But was a very good performance all around, against a quality opponent. In the past I've thought the Giants' reserves team was a little soft, seeming to rely more on its talent and skill than hard work. But today's game approached the kind of tackle intensity you see at senior level. And while the Swans were matching the Giants in the inside grunt work, they weren't working quite as hard when the ball found its way to the outside, and the Giants had a little more class in front of goal.

The second half was a testament to the Swans' increased work rate. They clawed their way back into the game, and the missed chances in front of goal started to be converted. At the start of the final quarter, the Suns kicked a couple of quick goals to extend their lead to just over a couple of goals, but the Swans dug in deep again and found a way back. They managed to level the scores through a couple of behinds that might well have been goals, including one from a sensational run by Hiscox who burned off his opponent and ran 60 or 70 metres but didn't have the composure to nail the shot. Another behind saw the Swans sneak ahead and then they spent the last couple of minutes ferociously defending the ball in their defensive 50. It was a hard earned and well deserved victory in the end, by the narrowest of margins.

As already noted, Mitchell was great. Found the ball in contests and in some space.

Sammy Naismith's three first half goals kept the Swans in the game early. All came from good marks, one assisted by a 50m penalty. His ruck work was pretty good too.

Davis started the game pretty well in defence but was involved in a heavy collision within the first 5-10 minutes. He was assisted from the ground and didn't take any further part in the game. Probably concussed rather than any other part of him injured.

Mills and Heeney showed flashes of their class and ability. Mills had a long shot for goal after baulking an opponent, From where I was sitting (right behind where he kicked it from) it looked like a goal but was given a behind. It definitely went the right side of the post but maybe nicked the post on the way through. Heeney took a couple of very strong overhead marks, and at one point burst away from traffic and had a shot on goal (that missed by some distance). Hiscox was great value for his three goals. As I've already mentioned, he definitely looks like he belongs on an AFL list. He'd be at least as quick as BJ and Cunningham. Needs to put on some size but is tall enough. Mostly an outside player but can work in traffic too and puts his head over the ball when he needs to.

X and Walsh were good in defence, especially in the second half. Like Harry M's game down there too. Jones coughed up one goal in the first quarter with a really bad decision to kick long across the defensive 50m arc but got better as the game went on.

Membrey fluffed a couple of chances in front of goal in the first half but was probably the difference in the second half. He played more of a half-forward than deep forward role and worked pretty hard up the ground. Was in my top handful.
