    TLM Countdown 2014, Rounds 1-2

    Let the Countdown Begin.
Thanks to all the co writers for helping out!!

    Round 1 v GWS @ Spotless Stadium

Lance 'Buddy' Franklin's first game in the Red and White and although a shaky start for the swans, it wasn't long before The Swan's prized recruit was in the action, kicking the swans 2nd goal of the game. Although it will be his only goal, as the swans shared the scoring around with 8 goal scorers. The weather turned nasty just before 1/4 time and the game was delayed due to lightning strikes. Once the game resumed the scoring was all with the swans, although 5 behinds in a row didn't really put scoreboard pressure on the young Giants. They reeled in the small lead to only trail by 7 points at the main change. The next qtr was the giants turn to be wasteful, but still managed to reduce the deficit further.
Goals were hard to come by for both teams in the last quarter, but the young giants were looking good. Half way through the last term things started to click and it started raining goals. 6 goals to nil with Cameron and Patton combining to sink the hapless swans who looked tired and worn out by the end of the game. 32 point win to the Giants. Their first against their cross town rivals.

2 Goals to McGlynn. Mitchell, Parker, Shaw and Kennedy among the best for the swans.

    Brownlow Votes: 3. S Mumford (GWS), 2. S Coniglio (GWS), 1. A Treloar (GWS)
Bob Skilton Medal votes: McGlynn 21, Parker 15, Grundy 10

    TLM Votes
    5 Rhyce Shaw
    4 Luke Parker
    3 Tom Mitchell
    2 Ted Richards
    1 Mike Pyke

Round 2 v Collingwood Magpies 12.17.89 def Sydney Swans 10.9.69

Another game away from the SCG and another game against our nemesis, the Magpies. The only two times we have beaten them at Stadium Australia were the premiership years of 2005 (round 13) and 2012 (preliminary final). No win against the Magpies at Homebush = no premiership?

After the previous rounds dismal performance the Swans came out strong. Especially the half back line with Rampe and Malceski kicking the second and third goals respectively. The end of the quarter saw the Swans with a 3.1.19 to 1.2.8 lead.
The second quarter was a bit of an ugly affair, with forward delivery was not looking that flash. At the time I was hoping it was due to a different looking forward line. Kennedy then started to show the high quality output that would define his season. McGlynn lifted himself and tried to lift those around him. A Buddy bomb at the end of the quarter showed us a glimpse of what the rest of the year would hold. For the Pies Pendlebury was having a blinder. The Swans accuracy helped them hold their quarter time lead, 7.2.44 to 5.5.35

The third quarter saw the Pies, lead by Pendlebury, start to dominate, whilst for the Swans too much was left to too few. Those few including Parker, who showed glimpses of what was to come for 2014. Wayward kicking didnt help and Swans finished the quarter only 2.5 to the Pies 4.5 for the quarter. The three quarter time score was 9.7.61 to the Pies 9.10.64.

The less said about the final quarter the better. The Pies played well and, apart from a few, our boys didnt. The final score flattered the Swans as the Pies could have easily kicked 7.3 not 3.7.

Is the Buddy factor destabilising the club?

    Brownlow Votes: 3. S Pendlebury (Co), 2. D Beams (Co), 1. D Hannebery (Syd)
Bob Skilton Medal votes: McGlynn 31, Hannebery 26, Grundy 25, Richards 25, Jetta 25

    TLM Votes
    5 Ben McGlynn
    4 Josh Kennedy
    3 Mike Pyke
    2 Ted Richards
    2 Dan Hannebery

McGlynn and Shaw off to a good start with 5 each. Pyke and Ted the only two to score votes in both rounds.

OMG. The suspense is killing me.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.
