    TLM Countdown 2014, Rounds 7-8

    Round 7 v Brisbane Lions @ Gabba

The Swans headed of the GABBA with a great recent record against the Lions (8-2). Buddy was out of the team with a knee injury and little did we know that

from this game onwards the team would only have one 2005 premiership player.

Hopefully with Buddy out the boys would go to the best option in the F50, not just Buddy every time. Well maybe they were trying that but the disposals were

woeful. This had a direct affect on the goal kicking accuracy. 3.6 for the first quarter against any just about any other team would be regarded as leaving

the door open. Luckily it was the Lions we were up against and it didnt come back to bite us on the bum. In actual fact the team improved through out the

game, this practice session may have been responsible for the great form we saw over the next few weeks.

    The Swans celebrated Shaws 200th game with a 79 point win. 18.15 123 - 6.8 44

The lowlight of the game was the hamstring injury to Pyke. No one likes seeing our boys injured but the responsibility of number one ruck seemed to

inspire TomD to play one of his best games in his very short career..
This game also saw a couple of other youngster show what they were capable of. Lloyd stepped up to play one his best games for the year and Cunningham made

the most of his limited opportunities. Shaw deserves a mention to for playing a good game in his 200th.

    Brownlow Medal votes: 3 D.Hannebery (Syd), 2 J.McVeigh (Syd), 1 J.Kennedy (Syd)
Bob Skilton Medal votes: Josh Kennedy 45, Kieren Jack 44, Dane Rampe 40, Luke Parker 40, Jarrad McVeigh 40

    Round 8: ANZ Stadium
    Sydney Swans 15.17 (107) def. Hawthorn 13.10 (88)

In their first Friday night match for the season the Swans ran through the Cheer Squad banner, which proclaimed Lets Show These Hawks, to take on the reigning premiers Hawthorn in the eagerly awaited showdown between the Swans star recruit Lance Franklin and his old club. Adding to the interest it was also the first time the formidable Swans forward line of Franklin, Tippett, Goodes and Reid played as a full complement.

The Swans started strongly to hold an 18-point lead at quarter-time, before the Hawks fought back to trail by just one straight kick at half-time and then to get in front for the first time late in the third quarter. However Hawthorn couldnt sustain their run as Franklin who throughout the match had moved impressively and marked strongly while kicking a wasteful seven straight behinds found his radar with two decisive goals in the final term, including a spectacular effort while lying on the ground, to take the Swans to a 19-point victory.

Dan Hannebery (40 possessions, six tackles and one crucial goal) was brilliant with strong support from Josh Kennedy (36 possessions, 11 tackles) and Luke Parker (26 possessions, eight tackles, two goals) while Kurt Tippett kicked four goals in his first game for the year.

    The suspense!!!

I reckon Joey might lose that lead... but it's still early!!
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.
