    TLM Countdown 2014, Rounds 12-13

Round 12, Gold Coast Suns v Swans

The swans struggled to shake off a tenacious Suns unit. May in particular was doing a good job to contain Buddy, although he still managed to finish with 3 majors.
Young Harry popped up with 4 goals to help out te big forwards. Reid broke the game open with 3 goals in quick succession in the 3rd term.
Whilst Tippett limped off with a knee injury. The swans were acutally quite accurate in comparison to their younger rivals.
Ablett was in fine form with 37 possession, but it was the swans midfield who dominated with Hannebery, Jack and Kennedy led the way in the midfield. with almost 90 touches between them. McGlynn was another casualty with a head injury.

The swans led and every change and managed to increase their lead.

    Brownlow Medal votes: 3 - J.Kennedy (Syd), 2 K.Jack (Syd), 1 G.Ablett (GC)
Bob Skilton Medal votes: Dan Hannebery 39, Josh Kennedy 38, Kieren Jack 38, Harry Cunningham 38

    TLM Votes
    5 Dan Hannebery

    1 Nick Malceski

Round 13, Swans v Port Adelaide

Crowd: 41,317 (third largest H&A SCG crowd)

The best game of the year for Swans fans.
The Power were two games clear at the top of the ladder and the Swans were in third but aiming towards the top spot.
After our crap start and then winning seven in a row, with the dismal Cats performance the previous week, this would be the game to show us and the competition where the Swans really stood.

Pyke was a last minute withdrawal before the game with Rohan getting his first run since round four.

The Swans came out strong in the first quarter, but as has been a bit of a common theme this year, the dominance on the field didnt translate to scoreboard dominance. The Swans should have been up by six goals instead of the 12 point lead they held at the end of the first quarter. Maccas smother and dribbled goal the highlight of the first quarter.
    Swans 2.8 20 Power 1.2 8

The poor accuracy continued in the second quarter and, as was expected by many RWOers, the Power took the lead midway the quarter. The Power kicked 5.3 to the Swans 4.4 with pretty much all the Swans behinds coming at the end of the quarter, much to our frustration. It was a toss up between Goodesys left foot boundary snap and Jettas 60m one step drop punt for goal of the quarter.
    Swans 6.12 48 Power 6.5 41

The end of 2nd quarter momentum stayed with the Swans and they were able to extend their lead to an uncomfortable 15 points.
The third quarter was also the quarter that we saw Buddy start to really get into the game.
The sorf-of highlight for the quarter was the terrible pass from Jetta to Kennedy on the 50m arc. Joey was about to be brought down but shrugged the tackle, miss kicked the ball and it was headed for a behind only to wobble back in for a goal in the last couple of metres,
    Swans 11.13 79 Power 9.10 64

The last quarter was, if you believed the commentators, always going to belong to the Power. It was as if no other teams did tough training during the preseason. And to give the Power their credit they got back to within one point of the Swans. Then the Buddy shows final act played out. A big tackle and goal gave the Swans a little breathing room. But that was nothing compared to his next. A clean kick up the wing found Franklin about 70m out. The goal square was empty and that was invitation enough, Buddy wound up and launched the Sherrin which bounced through for a goal. The final couple of minutes was very stressful with plenty a great pressure acts from both sides. The Power got very close but a punched through behind from Reid was enough and this game was the Swans eighth win in a row.

    Swans 14.14 98 Power 13.16 94

    Brownlow Medal votes: 3 - L.Franklin (Syd), 2 B.Ebert (PA), 1 - R.Shaw (Syd)

    fly. be free joshy!!
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.
