Round 16 saw Sydney travel west to slug it out with the Eagles in miserable, wet conditions. This is a fixture the Swans have dominated in recent years but the weather ensured they would have to work harder to secure the points this time around. Despite dominating in midfield for large portions of the match, the Swans struggled to open up a convincing lead on the scoreboard, and shortly before � time their lead had been whittled back to barely a goal. The 3rd quarter had been the Eagles� best by far, and then had succeeded in pinning the Swans into their defensive zone for long stretches. Players from both teams were forced to crack in hard to every contest, and the Sydney defence had been magnificent in withstanding the barrage.
In the final quarter, the Swans were finally able to chip away and establish a match winning lead, with the Eagles looking exhausted from their earlier efforts and suffering the effects of a game ending injury or two. The final margin possibly belied how close the contest had been for much of the afternoon, though the Swans should have secured more scoreboard reward in the second quarter, when they dominated play but peppered away to score just 2.8.
With Franklin well held by Mackenzie for much of the game � with the holding more literal than the umpires or commentators seemed willing to acknowledge � record breaker Goodes (in game 341, surpassing McLeod�s record for the most games played by an indigenous player) popped up to kick goals at important stages. Jetta, Richards and McGlynn were amongst the Swans players who put in admirable performances. Le Cras extended his record of failing to yet score a goal against Sydney, able assisted by Smith. But it was Luke Parker who walked away with a rather large piece of silverware for his mantelpiece, with a 33 possession and two goal best-on-ground contribution.

Round 17, Swans v Carlton
It took some pace from the slowly improving Rohan to get the ball rolling. Running onto a loose ball and outsprinting his opponent he kicked the first goal of the game after 17 minutes of play. The second came as a result of a booming left foot from Malceski. Despite 2 goals from Reid in as many minutes, the swans struggled to break
free of the blues leading by a mere 7 points at the main change. After the break the Swans dominated with 10 unanswered goals to put the game out of reach of the Blues. 5 goals to Franklin and 2 to Reid, while Parker bobbed up for a goal as a result of another of his trademark pack marks right in the goal square. An outstanding quarter of footy.
The result was beyond doubt at the last change with a 70 point lead.
6 Goals to Franklin, 4 to Reid. 41 touches to Kennedy including a record breaking 29 contested possessions.
This was the swans 12th consecutive win in a row. Equalling the record set in 1935.
