Round 12: Sydney Swans Reserves v Sydney University

    NEAFL 2015 Round 12

Sydney Swans Reserves v Sydney University

    Friday 26th June 2015
    4.10pm
    Sydney Cricket Ground

When these 2 sides met in Round 4 as the curtain closer to the Swans-Bulldogs game, Uni were winless and a torrential downpour resulted in a tough, hard fought slog that the Swans eventually won thanks to a scintillating 3rd quarter.

Fast forward 7 rounds later and Uni have turned their season around and are in line for their first NEAFL finals appearance. They have achieved this with some impressive victories, including an upset of the NT Thunder over in the NT. Their big name recruits have started to gel and they are in good form. With the Swans again fielding only 13 listed players, there may be an upset on the cards.

    Changes
    In: Nankervis, Hiscox, Robinson
Out: Abe DAVIS (senior emergency), Zak JONES (seniors), Tom DERICKX (seniors)

The midfield is boosted by the return of Robinson who needs game time after 2 sub's appearances. Some height is lost through Davis being rested as an emergency, he filled in as a tall forward against Eastlake. With Nankervis and McLaren the only genuine tall forwards, who have to split time in the ruck as well, hopefully the bulk of the scoring will be picked up by the midfield and the small forwards.

No changes indicates a very settled team.

Former Collingwood and Western Bulldogs player Tom Young has been their best player in the first half of the season, averaging 24.9 disposals, 4.6 marks and 6.0 clearances. He is currently second in the NEAFL MVP voting. He has been ably supported by fellow midfielders Sam Fong and Mitch Thompson. Former West Coast and Port Adelaide defender Lewis Stevenson is providing plenty of rebound from defence with his 21.7 disposals per game. Up forward, tall forward Jacob Derickx BOT (brother of Tom) and small forward Tim Barrett jointly lead their goalkicking with 17 goals each.

Aspley recruit Jed Turner has proven invaluable in the ruck and also provides another tall option up forward.

In addition, Sertbas, Thompson, Foster, Campbell, Krochmal and Young will be familiar to the Swans as have all played as a topup for our side one time or another.

Excellent preview! Impressive to note Marsh leading coaches' and MVP voting. I wonder what it will take for him to get a first game in the seniors. Probably injury. Clearly they have lined Zak up to fill in for Shaw when he goes. Marsh seems to be cover for Ramps and Laids and may be a long while plying his trade predominantly in the NEAFL. I also wonder where he stands in relation to Abe Davis who has been named emergency for tomorrow. Perhaps depends on the situation with Abe benefitting from being more flexible?

BTW, you're not related to Grug are you? Another family favourite.

There's a very good chance that I won't be able to watch this game so any reports would be appreciated. Thanks.

At what time tomorrow morning do we reckon the game will be relocated to Blacktown? How many sprinkles of rain will it take. I see showers are forecast for tomorrow morning, and even though it's been mostly dry this week (between Monday and Wednesday), and what rain we did have today wasn't too heavy, will they fear a waterlogged ground and panic (yet again)????

Just my thoughts: If it was an out of town team I think the deadline would have been Thursday, but since both are local teams there is probably more leeway to leave it as late as possible.

    Fingers crossed!

Weather is looking good. I think I'll try to get to this and post updates here if I do.

A RESSIE GAME!!! I am so excited. I haven't seen one all year. Forget the after the main even game, I just couldn't juggle the additional walking, car park exit etc.

Oh please don't cancel it at the last minute Swans; or the SCG buggers.

I haven't been this excited since......

    Ta ugg. Bless...

Good game so far in nice conditions. Towers has been very good around the ground with 1 goal. Missed the first (got in late). I believe McLaren got the other - I was getting a beer. This reserve watching gig is tough, ugg.

Seems the senior's kick in issues have infected the 2s with two going directly to opposition and Newman shanking one straight OOB.
