    Membership numbers

Almost 49,000 is a magnificent effort for a club that almost became extinct in the 90s.

When I was standing on the wing at the Lake Oval in South Melbourne all those years ago, I never dreamed the Bloods would have such a strong club and membership!

Puts us 8th on the membership numbers table, behind Fremantle Adelaide and Port.

Good job Sydney. 1% of the population of Sydney is a Swans member.

I noticed Collingwood had the biggest dropoff. They probably need a new president.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Also note the strong growth from GCS and GWS

I expect it will be a bigger drop off next year.

I think those numbers are to 31 July too. If we get into the GF and barry dumps his ANZ we might hit 50,001 by the end of the year!

No matter which way you cut it, the 2015 results are really outstanding. % and unit increase are market-leading, with even a 5% increase the club will hit 50,000 supporters next season.

Our membership represents 1% of the Sydney population. The average of the 9 Melbourne clubs represents 1.2% of the Melbourne population. Statistically we are not that far behind Melbourne clubs in terms of support.

When they talk about general "support" for a club, Sydney tops the ranks.
They use things like television ratings, surveys, etc.
I read about it somewhere ages ago, but can't remember where.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Yeah there was something along the lines of 1 million "fans" of the club, across social media, TV ratings etc. which apparently made us bigger than Collingwood (?)

Who would have thought in 1994 that 21 years later we would have more members than Carlton (!!!!!!), Geelong, North, Melbourne, Bulldogs and the Saints? So, in order, we go after Fremantle, Adelaide, Port and West Coast.....then Essendon, Richmond, Hawthorn and Collingwood :-)
