Great to hear that cartman, a win for the code, and culturally better for them than being NRL or Soccer goons, that's for sure.

But again, let's hope that GWS have the people who are smart enough to really take advantage of their on field momentum though.

They need to vindicate the $1.2mill a year they spend on "membership, fan development and community engagement" and have been spending for several years, and do a lot better than the increase of about 800 members that they have to show for it since 2013. if they continue to win games, and don't hit 20,000 this season or next, there should be mass resignations in their marketing and membership departments.

    No need to apologize mate.

It's not a matter of right and wrong either, it's all just opinion and perspective.

    Cheers.

I agree with you but I also used to sit at the SCG every fortnight with around 3000 other people at Swans home games - they seem to be going OK now and the AFL unlike its rivals tend to stick with plans long term even if they are leaking money - lets not forget that the TV deal loses 200 Million dollars over 5 years if GWS folds.

I'm not sure about that number for GWS, but imagine how much would they lose if Sydney Swans fold.

If it folds they would just put another team in tassie or somewhere to keep the 9th game.

And you think they would get 200 Million dollars for a Tassie team? No way. The only reason AFL wants teams in Sdyney is because of the TV deal.

No you did not because we never had crowds that low so stop trying to push a GWS agenda with untruths.

Can you please stick to the facts

I hear this mythical 3,000 figure re Swans home games and it makes me want to puke because fella it simply aint true. They were dire days but our crowds WERE NOT THAT LOW. 9,178 in 1990 was our lowest average crowds and whilst we did have two poor crowds of 5,272 v the Brisbane Bears and 6,136 v Fitzroy we were nowhere near this 3,000 figure that people keep on parroting on about

From what I know Manly received no real benefits so I find it hard to understand why they would purchase ex match day footballs from GWS. Why would you surely they havent been locked into a deal that pours the money back to GWS. How would I know? The warm up footies they used yesterday were all ex AFL match balls which were manually labelled GWS. Again how would I know - I helped them pump them up lol (PS they were all gold labelled and GWS sponsored footies).

I really dont care because at the end of the day I dont by into the bull@@@@ of GWS - If they were fair dinkum they would have actively engaged local clubs. They are a business and a strategic play by the AFL. I would rather worry about managing what I can control at my club which aint much to be honest than some short term benefits that are supificial at best.

I had to laugh today speaking to a grandmother whose grandson has played NEAFL for the Giants and lives in the Blacktown region cane them. Also also found it really ironic that my daughter who plays youth girls was playing against the Blacktown City Suns. That should speak volumes in itself.

The honest answer to the impact on my club though is definately positive - It means we now have great sponsorship levels thanks to the greater awareness of the game - outside of that they have had no impact and most people I know still have their own alliegnences to clubs they have supported long term.

Yes Tom a couple but not that many. GWS have raised the awareness of AFL in Western Sydney so for myself that has helped attract sponsorship. Outside of that I dont have an opinion because they dont know we exist.

Heavily inflated figures and I'm a Hawthorn supporter so as much as I want GWS to succeed for a football supporting point of view I'm not bias like your good self.
And in 15 years at Sutherland (In Sydney's zone) we saw support from the Sydney swans twice.

I remember being asked if our group of about 40-50 Seven Hills juniors could go to the other end of the SCG at end of each quarter so it looked like there was a crowd of TV! Free 4 n 20 and a mini can of Coke and we walked around the boundary, escorted by an official of course. Geez, that would've been around 90?
