Round 7: Canberra Demons v Sydney Swans Reserves @ Manuka Oval

    NEAFL 2016 Round 7

Canberra Demons v Sydney Swans Reserves

    Saturday 14th May 2016
    12.00pm
    Manuka Oval

Officially this is the first ever meeting between Canberra and the Swans, but in reality the Demons are just a rebranded Eastlake outfit hoping to take advantage of the fact they are the only remaining Canberra based team in the NEAFL. The Demons have struggled in the past 2 seasons, winning just 4 out of a possible 41 games and despite being bolstered by signing some of Ainslie's better players, still haven't managed to win a game this season.

The Swans continued their good form last week, with a comfortable win over the Suns Reserves and will be hoping to take an unbeaten record to the bye in the following week.

9Abe DAVIS583Back in the midfield due to crowded and tall forward line.
    13Toby NANKERVIS525Senior emergency
16Gary ROHAN210Taken off last week as a precautionary measure
19Tom DERICKX310Played all last week as a forward, no time in the ruck.
    28Nic NEWMAN6014
31Harrison MARSH6123Continued his brilliant form, and has been our most consistent reserves player in the past year.
35Sam NAISMITH300Resumed his usual role as the first ruck.
36Aliir ALIIR4011Missed last week as the senior emergency
    38Colin O'RIORDAN6112
    42Xavier RICHARDS601Senior emergency
    43Lewis MELICAN603
    45Jordan FOOTE609
    46Sam MURRAY550
47Kyle GALLOWAY520Duck's eggs last week, the only way is up.

    Changes
    In: Aliir
Out: James ROSE (seniors emergency), Jack HISCOX (seniors), Brandon JACK (???), Tyrone LEONARDIS (???), Dean TOWERS (seniors)

Injuries to the seniors has seen the listed players number drop to a season low 14. With Jack, Rose and Towers missing from last week's team, Marsh may be required to play alongside Davis and Foote as the inside midfield brigade. Perhaps even Rohan getting a run in the middle after his quiet half of football last week would do him a world of good.

    Academy Players/Topups
    #NameGamesGoalsVotesNotes
    48Will GOWERS000NEAFL debut
    49Harrison CARR000
50Matthew WILSON6173Equal leading goalkicker in the NEAFL
51Callum McFADDEN630Getting some midfield time which is a little unusual for a topup
    52Luke SKRIVANIC220
    54Ryan HEBRON644
    55Ned REINHARD6134
    56Nathan COOPER000

    In: Carr, Cooper, Gowers, Skrivanic
    Out:
    Michael MANTEIT (Sydney Uni)

Officially Gowers's NEAFL debut but he did play in the NEAFL practice games in the preseason. He is a midfielder with big wraps on him.

Former Belconnen and Ainslie midfielder Jordan Harper has been one of the NEAFL recruits of the year. Harper is currently the competition's leading disposal winner and is currently equal 4th in the NEAFL MVP standings - an impressive result given his team hasn't won a game all year. With Nick Heyne and Isaac Taylor beside him in the midfield, young gun Luke McKay off halfback and former Adelaide Crow Ben Dowdell in the ruck, the Demons have a strong core that could cause the undermanned Swans some problems on Saturday.

Thanks Ugg, usual high standard of data and info, much appreciated. Does look a much depleted side now we have senior injuries to cover. BJ & Sexy MIA?

Liked the look of Wilson when I watched him a couple of weeks ago, be interesting to see if he continues his strong form.

Great stuff Ugg as usual. You wouldn't know Wilson's weight and height stats would you? I reckon size would be the only reason he would be passed up for a rookie spot.

Listen to the Kinnerar Beatson interview. If he is any good and we think he is a future player he will be drafted or rookied by us. Size doesn't matter according to Kinnear.

The only height I could find was a BigFooty post from late last year listing him at 177.5cm and 66kg.

Not a big deal but I think you might have the wrong date for the game in the OP - Sunday the 15th of May instead of 13th. Just in case some obsessive does a search in the distant future.

Ouch (for the Demons). That's a huge margin, especially given the Swans' side was one of the weakest (in terms of listed players available) of the year so far.

Wow! 6 goals between the brothers Derickx. Jacob kicked 4 for Sydney Uni. The competition between the 2 is really heating up.

I saw him take a decent contested mark.
