9 rounds complete who is our best 22 ?

well i must say i didn't think i would see the likes of a Paps, Mills, Hewett, AA, Robinson being strong contributors within the first 9 rounds

Rohan comes back first class which was amazing considering he didn't quite look in great form last year

McGlynn has also come back strong so far.

Paps kills it for 5 weeks as a rookie and now might not get back in the team for a little while

We also have even seen Jack Hiscox make a debut before Abe Davis or Swampy Marsh which surprised me a little

Im not going to right off Dean Towers yet......nor Brandon........doing time in the system can work wonders and Laidler and Rampe are great examples of time in the the development can works wonders.........even if one if feeling impatient for more

Will we see the pay off on Jones and Mills ? yes within a few more weeks they could have removed a few errors and then build into what we require from them for the the team to go to a whole new level

so far it is hard for me to find a spot for Sam Reid but i would suggest Zac Jones or Hewett may make way ?

B Dane Rampe, Ted Richards, Nick Smith
HB Jarrad McVeigh, Heath Grundy, Jeremy Laidler
C Callum Mills, Josh P. Kennedy, Dan Hannebery
HF Gary Rohan, Lance Franklin, Luke Parker
F Ben McGlynn, Kurt Tippett, Isaac Heeney
FOL Callum Sinclair, Tom Mitchell, Kieren Jack
I/C Harry Cunningham, Zak Jones, George Hewett, Jake Lloyd

He performed well against West Coat, but has been down in other games. Not great in that last quarter against Richmond.

He has entered the ROK zone. Being beaten for pace by Ben Griffths had me concerned.

Reid and Talia are out so he still plays.

I believe they settle Reid as a KPD and look to the future.

Teddy has played a lot better than Reid this year, therefore he is in the best 22 after nine rounds.
Nothing much wrong with the team that beat the Hawks for mine.

Dont know about Ted but he should be given a bit more time , he got MOTM just a couple of games ago ! Agree re Reid.He needs to specialise on a position and the only one really is out the back. If not then it looks like a story of unfulfilled potential so bye , bye.

I am loathe to reduce our squad to a mere 22. For reasons I have expressed before our squad of regular first graders must extend to at least 27. Different opposition provide different threats and opportunities and we must be flexible and mature enough to respond to both. An alternative to a larger squad is that within the team there is enough inherent flexibility to meet all the variations available.

For example, this week our opponents are North Melbourne, their forwards provide a completely different profile to last week.
Hawthorn had one experienced tall, one inexperienced tall, three outstanding small forwards and a resting midfielders including two competent ruck men. North have three experienced and dangerous talls, two outstanding small forwards and a variety of hard working resting midfielders.

This latter combination is very like the group that humbled our backs against Richmond. Another team with a similar profile is GWS and we see how effective they've been.

Players like Rohan and Reid provide the necessary flexibility within a team to cover developments during a match, both are key selections in my opinion.

I like all of the comments above but

Our Best 22 are always the ones selected for the next game, whether it be for match ups, covering injury etc

As long as they give their all on the day

Not sure how Reid makes the best 22 after 9 rounds...he hasn't had a stat yet!
My best 22... Based on the first 9 rounds :

    FB : Smith Grundy Rampe
    HB: Jones Richard Laidler
    C : Jack Kennedy Hannebery
    HF : Rohan Franklin Heeney
    F : McGlynn Tippett Papley

    FOLL : Sinclair Mitchell Parker
INTER : Mills Hewitt Lloyd Cunningham

So I've left McVeigh out, based on what he has delivered over the first 9 rounds.
In reality I'd have in in my team, on the basis I expect him to come good soon and he's a captain with great experience.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MT

This thread tells me that I wish it was September. We're incredibly healthy.
